Why are my some students not interested in English?

When I taught a lesson for the first time, I did not pay much attention to the students' interest. But during my first practicum, I realized that some students were not interested in the lesson, and even one student fell asleep in class. This condition was the main reason why I conducted this research and chose especially this topic. Finally, I decided to do research on this problem.

According to my students' answers, it seems they generally like their English classes. Most students are either "just interested" or "very interested," with only one student indicating "not interested at all." Some students join in more than others. But most of them enjoy the activities, especially speaking and listening. It's clear that speaking and listening are the most preferred topics among students, with writing also receiving some attention. Some think there could be more kinds of activities.Overall, it shows that keeping the classes interactive and focusing on speaking and listening can make students happier. They expressed a strong desire for more interactive elements, such as games, to make learning enjoyable and interesting.

Reflection on My Research

Doing this research helped me understand why some students are not interested in English and how to make lessons more enjoyable. I learned that most students like English, but they enjoy it more when lessons include Speaking and Listening activities. They feel bored with too much grammar and memorization, so they prefer interactive and fun activities.

Students also shared that they want more games, group work, and activities to make lessons interesting. This shows that active learning is better than just listening to the teacher. Using role-plays, storytelling, and multimedia can help students feel more confident and excited to learn English.

The research process taught me that a flexible and student-centered teaching style is important. If lessons are fun and engaging, students will learn better and participate more. In the future, I will continue to improve my teaching by using more interactive methods to keep students motivated.

I am an undergraduate student at Namangan State Institute of Foreign Languages.

As part of my teaching practicum, I taught English to 3rd and 4th graders at School No. 13 in Namangan, Uzbekistan.

Each class had 16 to 18 students. Throughout this practicum, I faced both rewarding and challenging experiences.

According to my critical friends, students' most enjoyed activities are Speaking and Listening. They think some of my students are not interested in grammar. Teacher recommended grammar games, group activities could make classes more enjoyable than past lessons.

Not all students can be easily engaged in lessons, which creates challenges for teachers. When I first started teaching, I didn’t pay much attention to student engagement.
