Discrediting the free press can allow the government to have more control over people's voices. Power is having the ability to influence or compel others to agree or determine a certain event/agreement. Power can be inherited depending on a background or ethnic, but power can also be achieved. Although power is illustrated as a gift it can also be abused if given to the wring hands.

Abuse of power can be recognized once there are demands and obligations. This is when the one with power compels their followers to take an actions with out their approval. In others perspective if one person in power uses their capability for their own personal gains and benefits.
What can citizens do if power is being abuse? 
I myself have experience with this topic. I know even students have the power to speak for their opinions. For example I been part of the Sonoma County Activist Group we organized a protest for LGBTQ community to spread awareness. Although personally I don't think protest essentially solves anything. I spoken at the city council for Roseland during public hearing. This is more effective to make a change if power is abuse. The city organized public hearing to allow anyone to speak for themselves.

Although it may not be as impactful during their first stages as a group of people, when an individual's passion and power are strong enough, not only can they change society, they can change the world.

Power is what can influence, and to some extent, even control people. It is often gained through the emotions of fear and vulnerability because that is when it is easiest to obtain. Sometimes, like when we dissect Hitler's motives and actions, it is used to do cruel things to people or other times, like with MLK, power is used to fight for one's beliefs.
