H.I.V.E

Mark Walden

H.I.V.E is a story about a kid named Otto that gets kidnapped and taken to a school where villains exist and people are trained to do villainous stuff. The book is very bad, which sucks because it had so much potential. The characters blend in with each other a lot. One girl exists for one purpose, to be a hacker or an expert at computers. Her personality is just "I need to do computer stuff." Nothing beyond that. Another guy is just supposed to be strong and protect people, so that's his entire personality. This one has the most character because he actually has an ambition, but the other ones don't. Also, in every book, there needs to be some kind of argument, and I think the writer just went "oh wait, I need to include an argument," at the end and threw it in. No build up whatsoever; just Otto being like "I'm mad that you actually want to uncover something you've wanted to know." The worst part is; the argument lasts for three seconds. (Or two sentences.) All aspects of the book feel oddly rushed as well. The slice of life scenes lasts for a sentence and then things immediately go wrong. The action scenes also last for three seconds and then jump back to stationary talking. Overall, one star book. Would not recommend.

J.K Rowling

AR Level: 6.7, 18 Points

In another part, The Prisoner of Azkaban goes from fantasy to sci-fi, because of time travel, where Harry goes back in time to save himself. With the adventurous and scary parts in perfect balance, this book is a good read, and personally, it is my favorite book in the whole series.

JK Rowling

Harry Potter is a story about a kid about Harry Potter who gets his parents murdered by the infamous Voldemort and taken by his muggle uncle and aunt. Then an owl is sent to him stating he is eligible to attend hogwarts, one of the best schools for magic. This book is actually very good because we get to see Harry himself in perspective. The argument is has charecter development because when Professor Dumbledore was argueing with harry that professor Quirrell is a hourcrux of Voldemort temporatlilly I would recommend this very book. 5.5 AR reading

Warriors: Midnight

Erin Hunter AR Level: 5.8 , 11 points. Midnight is set in the warrior cats' world. In this book, our main focus is the 6 journeying cats to midnight, Feathertail, Crowpaw, Brambleclaw, Tawnypelt, Squirrelpaw, and Stormfur. The books don't entirely focus on the journeying cats though, it also tells you what's happening back at the camps in Leafpaw's eyes, (Squirrelpaw's sister). A thing I like about this book is that they write cats' behavior accurately to real life cats. Well, real cats don't speak perfect English in real life like the cats in books, of course, but it's their body language and the usage of sensory and figurative language, and adjusts it a bit to make it more accurate to the warriors' world. I'm quite a fan of how they write their characters and their personality, making every character appealing. Highly recommended for animal lovers and those who enjoy reading books with prophecy and violence. (There isn't violence yet, but when there is, I just love how they write it. I've gotten inspired by it multiple times.) HOWEVER. If you are uncomfortable with death and graphic violence, I wouldn't recommend the warriors' series.
