The placement has been incredibly transformative for me. I realised that career management and self-management were not my strengths, largely due to a lack of planning and organisation. However, the placement provided me with a product timeline template and weekly deadlines, which helped create a structured environment.

By consistently engaging with the assignments provided by Practera, I learned to establish strict deadlines for myself and plan ahead for pitch day. This proactive approach resulted in my group winning first prize on pitch day, thanks to the deadlines we set for ourselves and adhered to throughout the process.

The Canva files were created by my group mates and me, representing the outcome of our collaborative effort through effective communication. We shared our expectations for the visuals, ideas, and formats for the pitch presentation, which resulted in slides that exceeded our initial expectations.

I received helpful feedback from both my mentor and group mates. Although the mentor’s feedback was initially directed at me, I realised that his insights and constructive criticism could benefit the entire group. By sharing this feedback with everyone, we improved our presentation and ultimately won Pitch Day.

#2: Interpersonal Skills

Overall, the placement has taught me to be more empathetic towards people and collaborate with your teammates. I have met supportive and collaborative teammates which contributed to our achievement. I learnt how to solve conflicts when working with people, especially when we had clashed schedule and couldn't complete the assignments in a timely manner. Instead of choosing to expressing my emotions all over the place, I regulated and communicated with my teammates my concerns and suggestions to solve the problems. This conversation showed our win also came from learning how to communicate effectively about our expectations out of this subject, our strengths and weaknesses.
