Penguins have an adaptation called cryptic coloration. This adaptation helps them blend into their surrounding especially when they are in the water. Their black backs help them when an animals is looking down and is over them. Then their white bellies help if an animals is looking up and is below the penguin. It relates to the quote because their genes have adapted to the colors of black and white. Then the penguins that didn't adapt were easier for the predators to spot and eat them. Which it would change the status quo to a penguin with a black and white coat.

The Dart Frog has an adaptation that helps protect them from being eaten by predators. The adaptation is having very poisonous skin and the frogs have very bright neon skin to warn other animals to stay away from them. This example relates back to the statement because of their adaptation they are able to flourish in the environment. This adaptation has become the status quo for a dart frog.
