Despite the diversity of excretory systems, nearly all produce urine through a multi-step process.  First is filtration, which is the process of passing a liquid or vapor through a filter to remove impurities.

The second process is the reabsorption of water and dissolved substances back into the blood. The third process is secretion, which involves the production and release of substances for excretion. The final process is excretion, which is the elimination of debris from the body.
