- Ricky, my mentor, who is a First Year PhD student pictured to me about what is meant by a review paper and how to think critically about general issues which would narrow down to a specific topic of interest to be researched. An assignment is given, to write a review paper on the theme of Energy Storage. Besides, he shared to me about his current research, which is the synthesis of nanoscale silver oxide particles coated with copper (II) oxide which possess antibacterial properties.

- Madelyn, on the other hand who is a master degree student demonstrated the usage of UV-Vis Spectrophotometer in determining absorbance of light passing through her samples of crystal violet dye solutions of different concentrations.

- It was nice to meet those brilliant minds of UM students and I am definitely looking forward to observing their endeavours in the research field and learn one or two from them.

• From the very beginning, the HR team made sure I felt welcomed by introducing me to all the company members and providing a thorough overview of each department. This gave me a clear understanding of how the company operates and how everyone works together to drive solar projects forward.

• My supervisor, Haziq, has been fantastic in explaining the technical aspects of solar energy. He took the time to walk me through how solar power works, breaking down the key components like solar panels, inverters, and mounting systems. This helped me grasp the mechanical engineering principles behind solar technology.

• For my first task, I was asked to write site reports for review before installation. I spent time learning what needs to be assessed and documented for each site, ensuring that everything is in order before the installation team arrives. It’s been great to get a detailed look into the pre-installation process and the importance of thorough site reviews.

• My second task involved surveying a site with the engineering team to observe how they assess the location and follow specific procedures to ensure everything is up to standard for installation. This task has given me a deeper appreciation for the precision and careful planning required for a successful solar setup.

• One of the highlights of the week was following the installation team during their work on-site. I had the opportunity to get hands-on experience by assisting with the installation of solar panels on a roof. Although I’m just starting out, it was amazing to see the process up close and learn the practical skills needed for installing solar technology.

Overall, week one has been a great introduction to the world of solar energy and mechanical engineering. I’m excited to continue learning and applying my knowledge in the coming weeks. Looking forward to what’s ahead!

- I looked into the theme of Renewable Energy, studied the reason behind the approach of governments of world nations to replace fossil fuels (coal, natural gas etc) with RE sources like wind, solar, geothermal and so on.

- With that as my starting point, I continued looking into several Energy Storage Systems adapted worldwide to store surplus electricity and release them to the community according to on-time-demand. In fact, the RSS is a key factor in uppholding output power consistency to avoid electricity shortage as RE sources may not be available at certain time of the day or the year.

- Ricky helped me onto locking into one of the RSSs, which focused on electrochemical. Still, I have a lot more to learn and include in my research outcome

(Hopefully it doesn't turn out that bad HAAHAHAHAHHA IM HAVING HEADACHE READING ALL THOSE JOURNALS) ;)

- When I came into the lab in the morning, I collected saturated silica gel beads from a glass jar containing some important chemicals and brought the beads to the drying oven to expel the moisture in order to regenerate dry silica gel beads. That means I got to use the device! From time to time I needed to check on the silica gel, give it a stir to expose deeper layer gel beads.

- Did something fun today, we went to UM Library for Open Day Event around 11 am and played few games there, explored the library and completed a treasure-hunt-like game, even brought back freebies and had a few free ice-creams from the event!

- Then we had a stroll back to the lab, I continued doing my assignment then. Not much but quite a special occasion we had today.

Firstly, I learned many things from my seniors and supervisor which focuses on the basics such as on how to reboot a computer, scan for viruses and checking for parts of computers and printers.

In my free time, I also started learning SQL, a programming language that pre-built actions that perform calculations, manipulate data, and return results. I learned a bit of basics such as statements, clauses and constraints. And I also did exercises to code to improve my understanding of the SQL.

Besides that, I was also assigned to be a social media manager for the company. Sounds fun right? Indeed, I got to learn many soft skills such as Photo and Video Editing using softwares such as Adobe Lighroom and Capcut since I have to edit photos and videos for the company’s social media. Safely to say, I understand the function of the apps more than before..

19/11 - Brief introduction about laboratory apparatus and machines such as PCR machine, gel electrophoresis, LFC and BSC.

20/11 - I was assigned to a simple project. Basically need to extract gene from bacteria and then grow the colony for amplification in PCR machine. I prepared the LB agar and LB broth. Then used autoclave to sterilize them before use (in the lab everything needs to be sterilized before use). Poured the LB agar into a few petri dishes and did streaking using loop and incubated for 18 hours and wait the growth of bacteria.

21/11 - Unfortunately in this morning when I checked the petri dishes, no growth of bacteria observed. That means I have to redo the whole thing (wonder which part went wrong T□T).

Prior to my first day of work, my mentor, Madelyn, did inform me to do a brief research on dye removal and membrane adsorption, turns out that my mentor is currently working on her thesis and that her research is focused on upcycling cardboards into membranes in order to remediate wastewaters. She showed me around the laboratory and also a few seniors that I will be working with. The highlight of the day was going to a room filled with various different kinds of spectroscopies, from infrared spectroscopies to uv-vis. Also got to learn how to operate them. It was fun getting to see the spectroscopy not only from the textbooks.

Also started the day with reading journals and understanding the theory behind it. We were also given the opportunity to participate in the library open day. We participated in some games, won some prizes and even got free ice creams. Had the chance to explore the library of UM. We even got to walk around the bazaar held during the convocation week. Definitely experiencing a lil of university life.

Learnt how to write citations in journals or reviews. The two type of commonly used ones which are APA and IEEE. And also how to generate them using different websites. We also finally decided on how the structure of the thesis will be. The rest of the day was me trying to find journals to be cited on the thesis.

Most of the time reading journals too and a failed attempt to explore UM during lunch break because of the weather. Madelyn showed me the results of the samples that she ran it through the UV-vis spectroscopy on Monday and also how to generate graphs using Excel. The day ended by distributing the prizes we won as a team on the library open day.

18/11 - briefing about mill system, ash handling system, slagging & fouling, compressors and economizer, answer quiz on topic ash handling system

19/11 - training for steam turbine,understanding the flow of steam in the system and how the valves function when the system is operating, identify the functions of stop and reheat valves, valve condition during trip in the system, answer quiz on topic steam turbine & auxiliaries

20/11 - training for condenser and feed water system, understanding the types of condenser vacuum pump, able to relate the pressure turbine with the condenser and pressure heater, know about the water treatment they used in the plant in order to get demineralized water (demin water) which is later used in many systems, answer quiz on topic condensate & feedwater system

21/11 - training for generator operator principle, stator cooling and sealing system in the generator, I also learned how they treat the waste before discharging it, the process is pretty complicated seeing how many things they have to monitor but overall very interesting

  I have learned primarily python libraries that are essential for data analysis. The exercises cloned from github are challenging and tedious yet educational. Several YT tutorials also give invaluable insights on data analysis, which lay the foundation for ML project in the upcoming weeks.

  
  

• For my first week, my Supervisor, Kak Wa explained further on how the company operates. From how we handle Tenders to Principles, to how HLAi make applications suit to their customers' requirements.

• Kak Wa also assigned me to a few Tenders just to get me understand and familiarised with how we do work here.

• My colleague, Atiqah helped to explain the fundamental parts of the Tender itself. For instance, using the web e-Perolehan, we can assist the Tenders from all sorts of industries, like KPM, JPM. Some of the Principles are HP, Dell and Canon.

• I was also assigned to do some cute tasks, such as creating a poster using Canva and editing a video using CapCut for the school teachers that need assists in how to fix a printer.

3. Completing the financial and technical part of Tenders

4. Write a report on Borang Pengisytiharaan

What I have learned this week :

1. Patience. I have to read almost 9 documents every day with pages starting from 10 to 50 pages. Although most of the documents for every Tenders are the almost the same, I still need to read through all of them just in case they needed a specific item that is usually not asked for. (saying from experience)

2. Writing emails need precision especially if I were to send emails to 5 or more Principles in order to participate in a Tender. What I meant by precision is you have to be very careful when typing the names of the Principles, because some of them have very same yet different names

3. Financial section is actually very easy. I already have the information, I just need to upload the document to their respective files. BUT TECHNICAL SECTION is such a tedious job. You have to look at AT LEAST 3 documents at the same time, the Quotations, DataSheet and QuickSpecs. AND I have to also see if all of the items comply with the requirements from the company.

4. On another part, Technical section is kinda fun because it is like you are shopping from Shopee or TikTok shop and look into the details before purchasing.

5. Writing a report is quite easy, just like finance, there is already a template and all the information I need is already there. I just need to transfer the data and done!

Overall, I enjoyed my first week, because I get to learn a lot of things and from different perspectives too!

(if only i could share what i did, but this is all pnc :(

Apart from that, I followed and assisted my colleagues in performing typical tasks of this department, such as setting up devices for meetings at other departments. Sometimes, when all of them are not in the office, I take the responsibility of answering phone calls from other departments.

My supervisor also assigned me the task of creating a Google Form survey to be answered by all 2000+ JKR Sabah workers. However, the task could not be completed that week, as I am still waiting for data on the name and department of around 700 more workers and the survey questions from my supervisor.

I find making ethernet cables the most interesting and engaging. It was hard to arrange the wire initially, but I quickly got the hang of it; making four successful attempts out of eight. Then, I followed my colleague to install the cable in another department which requested it.

There was also a major network problem that occurred, causing many departments in the building to slowly lose internet connection one by one. I could only observe my colleagues doing the mantainance work in the server room. The issue was luckily identified not long after.

Overall, it was an interesting week but I hope I will learn more interesting things during the following weeks.

Other than that, I also learned new skills from my colleague, Abang Faeiz . We went to JPPH Putrajaya to fix computer problem there (you know the old computer kerajaan people uses). The computer had a problem turning on so we had to backup the data using Acronis. We waited for 30 mins ish just for it to fail. Turns out, the 1TB hard disk had a problem so we went back to our office to back up 160+ GB worth of data (took 1 hour+). All in all, this week has been productive and i hope I can learn new skills for the following weeks.

Dr Habsah also tasked me to write a review paper of my own about the use of natural products in AML, which I will have to submit its draft by week 4. I also learned a bit about molecular docking software, such as Autodock Vina, MGLTools and Chimera.

On Friday, I finally went to INBIOSIS as my supervisor had already returned from Penang. I was introduced to the staff of INBIOSIS. There were a lot of PhD students there as well. Overall, this week was simple and relaxing, especially because I got to work at home.

MD was interesting ngl. I thought bioinformatics was boring before, but I guess it’s not so bad after all, especially since it is something you still need to learn for research. So yeah, it was fun, but then I had to do it repeatedly, and it got boring. But still, it was good to learn something new, and I guess I will never really be able to get away from software-related stuff especially in this era ;<

I also learnt how to do citations using Mendeley Desktop, also with kak Puteri’s assistance. My review paper’s on the go, by the way. I just started drafting some points and what-not, and it’s looking good for now (I hope), although I still have A LOT of reading to do, which may not be my hobby anymore by the time all of this ends.

• Successfully trained models using YOLOv11 (Ultralytics) for image recognition.

• Learned to annotate images using CVAT for machine learning datasets.

• These will be the basis for future works on applying machine learning technique to classify particles from cloud chamber videos.

Week 2 was filled with a wealth of new knowledge and experiences. Honestly, some days were quite stressful, but the results are always worth it :)) I am excited to work with the academic paper pertaining to the Cosmic Pi detector for the following weeks!

First week was a lot of learning and discovering. These tasks gave me a brief insight on data analysis (which still involves quite a bit of stats 🥹). Nevertheless it was a great experience and I look forward to the upcoming projects.

Learning YOLO was definitely a fun experience. Never thought object detection via machine learning could be this easily accessible. For more interesting object detection video, pls read ZU YAO'S POST on Week 2 (we trained the model for face detection 🌝).

25/11 - read some files about generator turbine and had some discussions about mill and motors with my colleague, my supervisor, TB explained about OLTC transformer and circuit breaker

26/11 - went to the site (had to wear ppe that includes safety jacket, safety helmet and safety boots), learn how they use megger to test the insulation resistance at the transformer (power supply, this is to see if there’s any leakage to ensure the efficiency of the esp (electrostatic precipitator) - a process to remove dust particles and separate fly ash, I was given a chance to actually do it myself and it was a really interesting process !!

27/11 - went to the site and my colleague, Afham and En Amri taught me about the distribution of energy from the transformer to the control panels and motors, they also taught me the importance of bus-tie breaker in the process, then I requested the plant manager, En Saiful for a plant tour, he brought me to the coal handling area and explained how the coal is brought from the ship and later by the conveyer to the coal yard before bringing it to the boiler, we also went to see the boiler system and I get to see the steam turbine, generator, heaters, sootblower and many more, it’s really fun to see the process in person

(my dad was so excited to explain how he started as an engineer in the coal handling system)

28/11 - went to the with my colleague, Puteri while she’s topping up grease in the motors, first we went to the cooling pump, MCW then boiling fuel pump, I learned that the type of grease used differs depending on the equipment and function

29/11 - went to the site to see how they check the oil levels at the transformer and learn about the different types of transformers (generator transformer, auxiliary transformer and auxiliary transformer), learn about the types of gasket, then I even got the chance to climb on the transformer and see how they wrap and cover the bus-bar to avoid the transformer to trip when condensation occurs due to environmental factors

-Completed and submitted Assignment 1 on the theme of Energy Storage to my mentor (I think Ricky said it was ok :D).

-Proceeded to Assignment 2, which is to study various characterization techniques for nanoparticles, covering morphology, thermal, electrochemical, photocatalytic as well as antibacterial analyses.

-I brought some pastries that I got from some area around Pudu to be shared with our lab members! Sadly Ethan left early and Ricky wasn't there the entire day so all three of us devoured them :D.

-Explored different choices of food in UM together with Zuyao, Enshi and Huaixuan like FacEng's nasi arab and chicken wantanmee, KK5's western food (Special thanks to Huaixuan for driving us there :D).

-Week 2 DONE AND DUSTED

Spent the day reading journals and reviews and understanding the effects of different conditions on the adsorption capacity like pH, adsorbent dosage, temperature, initial concentration of dye and contact time.

Finalizing the outline of the review and getting the green light from the professor to proceed with experiments.

Start to investigate the different conditions on the adsorption capacity. The 3 parameters that we are varying are pH, initial concentration of dye and contact time. The parameter investigated today was pH. The HCl and NaOH we made last week was used to vary its pH using a universal indicator (unfortunately the pH meter we calibrated that day was not functioning so we had to stick with using universal indicator) The membrane is placed into the jar of different pH and stirred using a magnetic stirrer overnight.

We filtered the samples from yesterday and learnt how a Centrifuge machine works. We used the Centrifuge machine so that the fibres of the membrane will precipitate at the bottom. We then started on varying contact time. The same process but varying the different parameter.

Read journals and reviews to learn more about the challenges that is faced by membrane adsorption, such as fouling, sludge formation and data scarcity.

Learnt about the mechanism of Adsorption which are physisorption and chemisorption. Today was also a continuation to investigate the effects of different contact time on adsorption capacity. Stirring the solution with a magnetic stirrer and filtering it. One more parameter left, which is the initial concentration of dye.

-Learnt about the existence of Pademelons and Wallabies which may look similar to the kangaroos, but they are actually different in species.

-For the second week, I was assigned to do my round in the Bear Complex section

Reading on Journals and Articles further on adsorption of cationic dyes. Then, we were offered to contribute a part in a review that the mentors are currently working on together which is about POPs (persistent organic pollutants) and that means even more readings to do. Lunch was great tho :33

Today is mostly making the membrane from cardboards. We weighed the cardboard we needed and shredded it into pieces and then the pieces are dipped into ethanol to remove impurities. To ensure thorough cleaning, the beaker of cardboard and ethanol are immersed into a ultrasonic cleaner. The pieces are then washed using distilled water. A small amount of distilled water is added to the cardboards and the solution is stirred using a magnetic stirrer overnight to break down the cardboard into fibers. Shortly after lunch, we went to a seminar presented by Dr. Jiban Podder from Bangladesh on metal oxide Thin Films and its application. It was not easy but there were refreshments :3

After that, i went to MSN (majlis sukan negara) to bring servers to Velodrom at Nilai. I learned many things about fibre cables, ethernet cables and had a chance to connect the CAT 7 cables and fibre cables to each of the servers at Velodrom. Unfortunately while all the datas are in good condition. We cannot access the firewall so we had to OT to solve the problem. (One wrong cable pull out and im dead (metaphorically) but fortunately it went well).

On the last day, I learned about how to image a computer which basically transfer all the previous datas to a new computer via cables. Firstly, we had to use Master computers and couple of hard disk and pendrive. Then, we open the cpu and spam f12 alot. After that we just use Dell BIOS to transfer the datas.

Besides that, i also had the chance to setup computer for the staffs at NAHRIM. It was easy because I think everybody can do it. Plus I have to ask them about the application that they use before and just check it in the form. Personally I learned alot this week and i am looking forward to learn more python because this week been busy

Periodic oxidation is done by adding oxidizing agent and maintained at 45 degree celcius for 4 hours in the dark. The solution is then filtered using a vacuum pump. The filtrate of fibers is the placed on a filter paper and allowed to dry.

Dipping the piece of moist membrane into alginate solution and allowed to dry. Read some reviews on photocatalysis of POPs and called it a dayyy.

3/12 - my supervisor, TB taught me about the function of transducer ( I thought it has the same function as the one we learned in medical physics but it’s not), relate how it flows current from CT, learned a little more about single-line diagram, Theo my colleague, Amin taught me about the differentes between line and phase voltage and how they change d.c. current to a.c., it‘s very interesting because we have only been learning about how to change a.c. to d.c. , went to the boiler and see how sootblower functions in the boiler

4/12 - my colleagues, Amin and Naqib taught me about the terminal and how can I differentiate delta and star, got to see how they attach the motor to gearbox of the sootblower

5/12 - went to esp (electrostatic precipitator) to see how they were going to change a defect transformer with a new one, then we went to see an overload motor at the blower (apparently they can’t find the cause because it went back to normal after a solo run test and the current reading is normal), later I went to the boiler and learn how they check the switch to test if it turns clockwise or anticlockwise (it’s supposed to rotate clockwise in order to touch the limit switch and rotate back to where it started) p/s : sootblower is used to remove the dry ash on the walls of the boiler

6/12 - went to the battery room to see how they check if the battery is still in good condition, they used a process called “charge and discharge”, the batteries are used in case there’s a fault then the battery will supply to the motor and later the motor will supply to the other load

time flies so fast, I can’t believe it’s been a month ,anyhow I’m still looking forward to these next 5 weeks (^з^)-☆

• Brainstorming ideas for research paper

• Literature review on various research paper about muon and the correlation of muon count rate with environmental factor

• Finalized title: "Pilot Study of Muon Flux Variations in Urban Structures: A Case Study at Universiti Malaya's KPPI Building"

• Studied statistical knowledge on hypothesis test and Poisson Distribution for analysing data.

• Collected and analysed muon count rate data for 4 consecutive hours at different floor of KPPI building.

After that, I have also learnt some troubleshooting skills. For example, I need to know how to find out the best concentration of antibiotic used to eliminate non-resistant cells but keep the one with resistance. Basically we have to test and error using proportional dilution (serial dilution should work as well but proportional dilution is still a better option).

• In my free time, I learned how to code using the programming language, Python. I joined the CS50 lecture on introduction to the programming with Python. The lectures were short and easy to understand. I love it! It is such a great way to learn coding in your free time at your own pace and place. Recommended!

• On 28th November. I went to send out a hardcopy Tender with Athari, one of my colleague. It was a quite unique experience because A LOT of things happened while we were on the way to send out the Tender at MyIPO. Some of them were, he forgot to fill up the fuel, and I had to anxiously sit back and hope for a miracle to come. TO MAKE IT WORSE, we were on a very LONG highway, its like there is no ending to it😭 It continued for few minutes that felt like an eternity. Not a very nice first impression ahhahha but thinking back, it was so funny considering this was also my first time following someone to send out Tenders. And quite possibly my last ahhahahha

• The next day, I helped Athari to make few calls to the companies that provide the assistance of installing cisco license and also warranty for the network provider.

• All in all, I can say for this week is, quite relaxing and interesting.

-This week my main objective is to complete my Assignment 2 on characterization techniques for nanoparticles. That means more and more reading! Nevertheless i still find joy in learning the mechanisms of an array of spectroscopy analyses and the theory beneath them. However to put them into documentation was quiteee troublesome, as i needed to include the sources that i refered to while typing them out in Word. Of all techniques, I think I find optical analysis the most interesting as it involves several devices with very fun mechanisms. Like the Michelson interferometer in FTIR spectroscopy, which uses fourier transform to resolve an overlapping wave profile of infrared radiation! Raman and photoluminescence spectroscopies were also very interesting to learn about, I think i have a special interest in optics.

-Aside from that and playing some pokemon battle simulations on random websites, we also attended a seminar in Research Nest of IAS on the synthesis of thin metal oxide films with various dopants and their application in energy storage by Professor Dr. Jiban Podder and his team at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka. Definitely learnt something new, and truly appreciate the donuts, samosa, and tea provided!

-That kinda sums up Week 3.

• For HTML, I learned about how to make comments, buttons, drop-down menu and more.

• For CSS, I learned about how to make 'decorations' on the website. It was so fun exploring different type of functions that a language can do. There was so many functions and syntax I learned like finding the perfect background-color, how to make an object float when you hover over it, different fonts and also about paddings.

• I also learned on the fundamental parts in GitLab and a bit of PHP

• Since I have also learned SQL before, I have to say I find it fun when I was re-learning it because I can understand what the brother is talking about.

• A new thing I learned about SQL is about Delimeter. The default delimiter is usually a semicolon( ; ). But for my project, I used a double dollar sign ($$) just to experiment the difference in the output. (it's the same)

I never would have thought learning about different languages through games are possible, but now I know!

• I then learned how to use DBEAVER, which is a database management tool that lets us easily work with different types of databases. For my databases, I find DBeaver to be a bit better tool than MySQL Workbench. Probably because the UI is much better and user-friendly. In my company, we use DBeaver due to the flexibility and more functions implemented onto the app.

  
  

• I then was assigned a task to create my own database using DBeaver and then put it into Laravel through Laragon.

• The process of downloading and understanding all the concepts and functions there was so complicated I wanted to give up. But thankfully Allah gifted me a great team that helped me in solving my errors

6/12 - I continued on learning about Laravel using Laragon. Then I learned the basics of GitHub like the commands, commit, push, pull and merge. I was confused A LOT, but it's okay because the instructions given was clear

9/12 - went to the transformer to take some oil sample, checked the kelman boxes (there’s two, one for the oil content and gases analysis and the other box is the hub where the data analysis is collected) there’s a lot of gases including CH4, C2H4, C2H6, H2, CO2 and many more (there’s 9 to be exact), the hydran level is also taken account as to ensure the moisture and humidity is stable (the alarm will go off if it’s too high because it might EXPLODE “pop”) this week is the “safety week” so there’s a lot of events going on and I was going to join the opening ceremony to see my dad delivering his speech (but he left me alone in his office—) and I had no clue where it’s held

10/12 - went to the CCR (Control Room) to monitor the oil content and gases from the transformers, basically all the data from the hub will be sent to the CCR for monitoring but like yesterday, they can also take the oil sample manually to measure the oil contents and gases, then  I went to ESP to see how they lift the transformer and apparently there’s a lot of differences in size between the new and old transformer so they had a hard time trying to figure how to fit it in

11/12 - went to ESP to see how they connect the bus-tie and do filtration (this process is done in order to eliminate the bubble gases), later I went to the CCR to check back on the oil contents and gases after they took the oil sample

12/12 - joined the safety week closing ceremony, then went to the LV (Low Voltage) Control Room and learned how and why should we do lock out circuit breaker (we do this when a fault or trip is detected and to ensure the system is completely off to avoid cases - eg : a rat bite the wire and the current suddenly flows when someone is working on the system)

13/12 - read some documents about the oil analysis (there’s 78 datas so i only read some 🧍🏾‍♀️), learn about the standard data to ensure the transformer is in good condition

Later on, I did my molecular docking report on the molecular docking task I did last week. I managed to understand further on the molecules in kesum best used to treat AML, as well as their most suitable orientations.

Furthermore, I also attended Program STEM untuk Semua, where most schools from Selangor attended. I got to see the projects conducted by UKM students as well, which were all very interesting and new.

For the rest of the week, I resumed writing my review paper.

-Huaixuan and I were assigned to assist in a mini project of our supervisor, Dr. Lai, to gather information about the use of sodium hypochlorite, NaClO as disinfectant for durian and rock melon trees, including the types of fungi/ bacteria invading those species, concentration of NaClO that is suitable, mode of action of NaClO in deactivating microorganisms... We're going to present our findings towards the tail end of our internship period. MORE READING HELL YEAH

-Also attended a mini-symposium by three speakers, covering three topics of synthesis of anticancer drug using benzimidazole, innovative teaching methods for chromatography learning and DFT-MD simulations of hydrated radical anions (very fancy right) and got the chance to connect with some First Year Pure Chemistry undergrad students. (There was this one guy kept on telling me how he could break Einstein's theory of special relativity that Huai Xuand and her mentor were laughing at me from afar...)

-Another talk which i attended myself at Friday afternoon (nobody wanted to accompany me heartbreak emoji) about isolating carbene and its potential synthetic application (I was only there for their refreshments, turned out no refreshment was provided ;<)

For the next few weeks, I must finish a report on Arduino UNO R3, and hopefully have some progress on our research paper. Hope remains!

I also had my first experience with a digital microscope, and it was amazing! The images were so sharp that I could see the primer and topcoat layers clearly, even measuring their thickness. I then wrote up a report on my findings, which was a nice challenge.

Next, I jumped into a wet paint property test, working with a light blue shade. For this, I checked the non-volatile properties of both diluted and non-diluted paint. I used a simple technique where I added some paint to a tin cap, placed it in a 110-degree oven for two hours, and then weighed it afterward to see how much evaporated.

Then, I calculated the standard gravity value using an SG cup, filling it with paint and measuring the mass. To finish off, I did a finesse check to assess the paint's smoothness and consistency. All in all, a week full of learning and experimentation.

17/12 - helped my colleague, Amin to go through the checklist and ensure that all the materials ordered is there, then I went to the battery room to take readings of the dc voltage, they use Nickel and Cadmium plate and this process is called continuity test, as long as the values are almost similar then it’s good to go !! (but if not then there might be a leakage) p/s : there were 346 batteries

18/12 - went to breaker room and observe how they did insulation resistance (IR) and contact resistance test, they had a problem with the signaling (it took too long and it was already time for me to go back (*☻-☻*) so I went back home lmao)

19/12 - went to ESP and they had to do the windings and connect the cables to the new transformer that they had just installed, they also had to connect another part to the body since the bushing part was exposed

20/12 - went to MV (medium voltage room) to isolate the generator in order to avoid it from tripping when work is done on it, then we went to the generator to clean the copper braid and change the carbon brush

So for the whole week, I spent hours on planning my mini project and finally decided on making a project about job finding, sorta like JobStreet kinda thing.

What I have learned :

This week, I mainly focus on designing the website as last week's objective was on the backend and databases using dBeaver and VS Code.

What I have learned :

• How to check on which part of the coding render errors. This is because most of the time, the errors are not even on the shown line, but earlier stages.

• Fix the errors myself, especially when involving database connection, (which is very tedious because the application wasn't local)

I also now know the different types of laravel project such as laravel breeze which usually used for website or applications.

This week, my team was assigned to doing a system for the office usage. I learnt there are couple of ways to like visualise the dashboard and website pages other than manually drawing using paper and pens.

For instance, Figma is a collaborative design tool widely used by Web Developers in conveying their ideas for the UI. It was so cool!

There is also Lucid App which uses database design using AI and data. Simply put, its like ERD. ERD stands for Entity Relationship Diagram. It is a visual representation of how entities in a database relate to each other.

Since I am new to these topics and usage, I mostly just observe and discuss with my team members.

Just from my personal view, the usage of this latest technology in designing apps really shows a different kind of perspective that coding or web development is not something you need to do from scratch. Rather, what you actually need to do is learn how to use the technology properly in order to help you achieve great results.

So the conclusion is that technology plays a big role in life these days; what makes us different from one another is just how we use the technology given to us.

Later on I got to enter the proteomics lab (finally lab coat attire!) and I leaned more about cell culture work. I observed kak Fiza doing cell culture work on MCF-7 breast cancer cells, and also assisted her in easy tasks. I didn’t get the chance to actually do the cell culture work on my own, as they wanted to avoid risk of contamination >;

We left the cancer cells to grow for a few days, which would later on be treated.

For the rest of the gaps in the week, I did (yes, you guessed it) my review paper writing. The end.

For this week, I continued assisting kak Fiza in her cell culture work. This cell culture work was actually done as a test run for a cell culture workshop which will be held on early of January. After a few days of letting the cancer cells to grow (and they grew really, really fast (nama pun cancer cells)), they were treated with natural products. For this test run, cashew extract was used. Multiple concentrations of the extract was produced. I was also told that they were planning to use curcumin, which originates from turmeric.

I also got to know more on the two types of cells, which is adhesion cells and floating cells. This is kind of important to know when doing cell culture, as there are slight changes in theirs methods for treatment. The cells were then left overnight.

The next day, MTT solution was put into the plate containing the treated cells, and then left for three hours. The results were then read using a machine, which was used to find out the abundance of living cells in each well. It was then identified whether cashew extract is truly a suitable natural product to treat breast cancer or not. However, the cells culture plate itself had shown to possess a few problems, thus the results generated were inconsistent.

I also got to see some biochemistry degree students doing their final year projects in the lab, and they also taught me a bit on their research which was interesting to know.

p/s: for the rest of the week I read more papers and resumed my review paper writing (which by now I wish could be over 🏃🏻‍♀️‍➡️)

It wasn’t just installing the respective pc’s. We had to join their domain, change the users pc name, set account as administrator. Furthermore, we had to dowload and activate apps such as microsoft office and adobe acrobat. It doesnt stop there, we had to setup their printers by dowloading their drivers (can dowload in google) and adding their ports which can easily added by TCPIP using their IPv4 adress. After the Installing we had to complete the user form as proof.

In conclusion, it was good for personal growth, as I was learning how to do things on my own and get out of my comfort zone by communicating and learning to articulate the right words with VIP such as Pengarah and Doctors.

The honorable mentions were weeks before this that i forgot to include before this. Before this I also had the chance to do PC maintenance at UPM. It was easy we just had to scan the disk of the pc and configure it. To sum up, i learned a lot in just about week 7 and is grateful for the opportunity given. Looking forward to what the last week will show me.

-This week I focused studying on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POP). They're simply chemical compounds that are extremely stable that they are not degradable in our surroundings, thus the idea of 'persisting'. Most of the POPs contain polyhalogenated carbon chains. According to the Stockholm Convention (A multilateral treaty that aims to protect human health and the environment from dangerous chemicals), there are currently 39 listed POPs, and this list is expected to grow continuously in the future. POPs get spread across the globe, transversing boundaries through a process called bioaccumulation: When animals of higher energy level in the food chain consumes animals of lower energy level, POPs are transmitted into the body of the consumer animals. When POPs get accumulated within bodies of living organisms and within their habitats, they would cause detrimental effects. Such effects include but not limited to carcinogenic risks and declination in neurocognitive abilities of human.

-Also attended class for Master students (That class was about concept of ideal gas condensation in synthesising nanoparticles, don't ask about what was delivered I forgot already :D)

-Attended last class for Master students for this specific course on nanotechnology, i think it was about synthesising 1-D nanomaterials. Dr. Lai shared some microscopy images of a few nanomaterials he manages to synthesised before, and details on how exactly we are able to synthesise some particular nanostructures (nanorods, nanofilms, nanowires etc...)

Besides,I also learn how to do temperature rise test for current transformer(CT) in LV-DB(feeder pillar).CT will be injected 400A by primary test set and check its temperature every 1 hour.To measure the current clamp meter is used.This test took 4 hours.

I also learn usage of rectifier in RMU-CB(Circuit Breaker).Rectifier will convert a.c to d.c while inverter convert d.c to a.c,rectifier is used as tripping striker will function with d.c to trip if overcurrent happen.Circuit breaker is more practical than HRC fuse.

Next I do inspection for limit switch barcket and auxilary switch bracket by refering drawing to measure every its length and ensure their dimension are in tolerance.After that I fill approval form and distribute to 4 departments:Procurement,Quality Assurance(QA),Production and Store.

Besides,I need to fill form of base panel,SCADA,RMU-LV which consist of marking number,position cable and type of cable lug.

Lastly,engineering and R&D department did gotong-royong on Friday due to rat.So we need to clean and ensure our lab is clean and neat.

Next,I installed rectifier in IND-12 RMU in Z-department.This installation is to test whether it can be used or not.Its size are smaller so it doesn’t need large space compared old rectifier.This steps needs a few steps before taking Vkp(Voltage knee point) of every phase:red,yellow,blue.For example I need to charge the CB and OFF before injecting high voltage.Vkp is different for every phase.This test need 50A and 100A.

Besides,I went to Incoming Quality Control(IQC) which is responsible to check goods from supplier.They do many testing such as:Purity copper,hardness spring.If the goods are damaged,they will be return to supplier or scrap.Pedestal is section where they install body of RMU.Every unit of RMU has their own body:ZZT,ZZTT,ZTTT.

Lastly,I went to drive mechanism and main line tank.In these sections,they will install all accessories in tank.For instance:bushing,arching chamber,arching ring,mechanism T&K,swutching blade.Breaker test analyzer(BTA) is section which checks switching blade’s specifications:velocity,rebound,overshoot.They also do insulation test and contact resistance test between phase to phase and earthing to phase.

The next 2 days I went to testing department.This time I felt relaxed as they did just RMU outdoor.RMU outdoor has 4 testing:continuity,contact resistance,tripping,High voltage.Continuity test used buzzer to check connection between phase to phase:R to R.Contact Resistance is done by using contacts mega tester.We need to check Z to Z and Z to T.We need to ensure the resistance value is in range.High voltage test used 28kV that will be injected to RMU for 1 minutes.After that,we check current leakage.

o  Gained insights into the apparatus used for UV exposure testing.

2.    Tensile Test Retest (MTGG, MP, MR Series):

o  Conducted retests for MTGG stretch film and MP, MR series.

o  Enhanced tensile testing skills for improved accuracy and consistency.

o   Performed dart impact testing and analyzed the results for plain plastic samples.

o   Focused on further enhancing tensile testing skills through consistent practice.

2.      Assisting Senior with Coca-Cola Project:

o   Repacked and unloaded Coca-Cola bottles from the pallet for acceleration & deceleration tests.

o   Assisted in shrinking six 1.5-liter cola bottles into one package for testing purposes.

o   Recorded videos of the acceleration test to document the process.

Firstly, I listened and observed to my colleague's explanation of the whole process. I raised a few questions regarding the partition of a drive, as I have not understood it yet. The software that we used for the process was actually only recently acquired. So we were learning to use it together.

After that, I was let to do an entire clone process by myself. It was a PC with an old and slow HDD that should be upgraded to a bigger and faster SSD. With a few more guidance and confirmation, it was a success. After finishing, I reassemble the PC components and turned it on to see if everything works.

The next day, I did the same thing but this time with a laptop instead of a PC. The process was mostly the same but slower due to the different set up in connecting the storage drives.

Other than that was mostly regular IT works such as setting up meetings and dealing with people's problem with their device. There is this one time where I had to go to a different department after receiving a call to identify the name of something (it was a server rack but I also didn't know initially)

I followed my colleague to set up a meeting in another department and we got into some issue connecting to the internet from the ethernet cable. We were worried if the issue from few weeks ago occurred again but it was then solved in the end.

My colleague also let me help her set up the new PC set she received. Although the process is very easy, it was still a good experience for me because I never own a PC set before. I also get to apply my knowledge of bypassing the microsoft account requirement in setting up Windows 11 as I haven't had any prior experience.

Other than that, there were a few celebration happened in the department during the week. One of them is a surprise birthday party for a colleague which had his birthday on the same week.

The whole set up process was fairly easy but takes time. At first, my colleague could not go through the Windows 11 set up process, as each PC requires a valid email address, but the user for each PC have not been determined yet.

I offered to help by trying to bypass the requirement like what I did last week, and it works! What I did was only inserting a simple command in the command prompt of the PC that make the set up process thinks that the PC can not have access to Internet. I did the same thing to ten other PC and packed them back in their boxes.

However, we were then instructed to install the required software for each PC, so we had to open each boxes back to install the software. One of the software is a special antivirus program for the workers of government of Sabah, which I didn't know exist up until this moment.

Halfway through the process, I realised I made a mistake of not uninstalling the pre-installed antivirus program (McAfee) and had to open the boxed-up PCs again.

Apart from that. me and my colleagues went to the JKR hall (Dewan Kinabatangan) to set up and configure a display for an upcoming sport event.

One notable thing that happened is when someone came to our unit carrying his malfunctioned PC. My colleagues tried to troubleshoot the problem in recovery mode but nothing worked. The PC was then disassembled to obtain the storage drive in an attempt to recover it.

One suggested method was to clone the drive into another clean drive in the hope of being able to access the contents in it. Since I already have a few experience using the cloning software, they naturally asked me to do it. However, upon further attempt to connect to the storage drive, it was determined that the method would not be successful, as a connection could not be made to the drive.

After a few more attempts, it was decided that the problem could not be solved by us and had to be taken to somewhere else.

Beside that, we also set up the display for the same sport event from last week in Dewan Kinabatangan.

Therefore, we only finished any remaining device setup and maintenance from previous weeks.

We had a guy came in with his troubled laptop which started having problems after running a windows update. After running some test and recovery effort, the source of the problem was identified to due to the ingenuity of the operating system license used. The Windows licensed was pirated (actually bought from Shopee) which cause the device to malfunction after attempting to update it.

Apart from that, a lady in our department had problems with her double monitor setup not displaying. We all thought that both monitor are gone for good, since they are of an older model. Therefore, we brought some spare monitor from the storage room (which has significantly reduced quality) as a temporary replacement after confirming that the monitors do not work.

However, one of my colleagues realised that the power source of the monitors was not connected properly. After attaching back the old monitors, both of them are working as intended again. We all laughed it off and stored the spare crappy monitors back in the storage room.

• Did the final presentation with ZY at NCPP's office.

• Prof Zamri, director of NCPP, Dr Nurul along a few other members were invited to attend the presentation

• The QNA section was terrifying and fun at the same time. (They bombarded me with questions 😭)

BUT ANYWAY WE SUCCEDED (HOOORAYYYY)!!!

Our final project is a DIY Cloud Chamber:

• The result was fascinating. I have no idea that visualizing particles could be that easy and straight-forward.

• All we need is a slab of dry ice and some alcohol and boom you have yourself a simple cloud chamber.

• If you are curious on the process of making one, simply search online. There are ton of tuto available. ( I am just lazy to include them in the post 🙂)

The 8 weeks experience at NCPP was definitely fun and rewarding. I learned a lot throughout the 8 weeks and gained insightful knowledge in the field of particle physics. I also met a lot of wonderful people who showed me guidance and useful life advices. My times at NCPP will never be forgotten and will always have a place in my heart.

For this week, a cell culture workshop was held, and there were participants from SIRIM, as well as one UKM alumni who joined to add something to her CV (which for me was wow, because the workshop fee was RM1000 and she paid it with her own pocket money). It was fun meeting new people, especially biology people and I even gained new interesting info from joining in their conversations, although I couldn't really understand the full extent of what they were talking about at times. Overall, I had fun trying to do cell culture work (and thankfully, I did not have to pay RM1000).

And last but not least, I finally finished my review paper writing (YAY!)

This whole internship experience was sure one to be treasured, especially since I got to learn the basic skills needed before pursuing my degree. The people I met will also always be remembered.

This is a dynamics web application that I did, which is same as content management system where one can edit articles and upload it. This mainly focuses on the admin work

And that is how I end my internship! I find Laravel Livewire is the best part of my internship because not only it is easy to understand than Laravel Breeze, but the function and way of writing the code are much easier and simpler. Sooooooo livewire for the win!

Big shoutout to my team and laracasts too, because they helped me a lot. And I think that is all from me.
