Chapter 9 best information(opinion based)

Chapter 9.3 pages 292-294, introduces the readers to a fascinating and beneficial topic of Jean Paiget's theory of cognitive development. The stages of cognitive development each describe the change in how we as humans see the world. From the moment we are born and to the end of our adulthoods. His Theory shows how infants grow through a constant cycle of learning and understanding. Explaining the complexity of how children show reason and problem-solving skills in everyday activities. In addition, in diagram 9.2, we can see how paiget's 4 stages of cognitive development are a series of building blocks with each structure acting as a foundation to the next. Each structure explains the complexity of cognitive growth and its progression through adulthood. The reason I find this information to be so intriguing is because Paiget gives us an understanding of how truly complex the human mind is and provides a framework of how the brain acquires knowledge and understanding. This information is beneficial to many including parents and teachers who are constantly around children. It can help provide an appropriate and optimal environment set on developmental and cognitive growth.

Self Motivation Score:

I scored a 41 between the ranges of 28-43 which is "OK" according to Mindtools. However, I require improvements in areas such as finding sources to help increase motivation. I find this issue to be closely related to chapter 11.2(page 365 extrinsic versus intrinsic motivation'?) where we are introduced to extrinsic and intrinsic motivation. Both involve a form of creating factors that increase motivation either through punishment and reward or through personal enjoyment. I find this assessment to be very accurate because I often find my self lacking motivation to complete many assignments whether its completing homework or basic at home tasks. I feel as though implementing factors that may help increase motivation will help me overcome my habits of laziness and procrastination. Furthermore, I hope that this implementation will help build better work habits and remove any negative work habits.

Self Confidence Score:

I scored a 59 between the range of 52-70 which is said to be an "Excellent" score. similar to the motivation quiz I believe that I tend to always try to better myself every day no matter how small of a change. In chapter 12.5(page 414) we are introduced to Albert Bandura's Theory of Self Efficacy. Self-efficacy as stated in the text book is similar to today's definition of self-confidence it is described as "A person's learned expectation of of success in a given situation." As shown from the results of the quiz I believe that because I have a high nature for self-confidence, it can be inferred that I have a high self-efficacy. On the other hand, while I did receive a high score I believe that there is still a significant amount of improvement that can be done to my self-confidence skills. I often find myself understanding my mistakes but not applying what I learned and even falling back into the same mistake.

Internal Locus of Control Results:

I scored a 27 between the ranges of 26-33 implicating that I have a moderate Internal Locus of Control. On page 415 chapter 12.5 Internal Locus of Control is defined as the thought of being able to control events in your life with your own personal efforts. I find this concept to be very applicable and relatable to me in my everyday life. This is due to the fact that I often find myself facing any issues head-on. I also believe that the effort I put in directly correlates to the cause of my events. With more effort put in the better the result of the outcome. However, even if I didn't achieve the results I expected I still believe that I could have put in more effort in order to have achieved the results I wanted.

Chapter 13.6 Resilience:

Resilience described on page 456 is, "The ability to recover and adapt effectively in the face of adversity." I find resilience to be a very important topic because it helps develop strong emotional characteristics. Furthermore, according to page 457 those who are resilient are perseverant and hard working. They have gained an endurance against stress and understand the importance of never giving up. The ability to be resilient is a very important aspect of my life that I try to incorporate and use daily. Lastly, resilience is greatly correlated with self efficacy and internal locus of control which as according to the quiz is process that I adopt (page 457).

Chapter 3 and 5

In chapters 3 and 5 we are introduced to Circadian Rhythms and stress. While these two chapters may not be the most important I however found them to be the most relevant to issues in my daily life. In chapter three we are introduced to stress and stress management. As a student I am constantly worrying about deadlines and being organized and needed ways to cope and deal with stress. Furthermore, in Chapter 3.3 we are introduced to forms of stress management such as emotional and problem focused coping. Throughout the semester I used these methods of coping to help calm and focus my brain during times of stress. Likewise with Chapter 5 meditation and circadian rhythms were also a very helpful topic to me during times of stress. According to the Chapter 5 (slide 10) sleep deprivation can have costly effects on one's body. Such effects include, "poor memory, mood alterations, and contracting illness and diseases." During stressful times such as exam weeks I would often find myself sick due to sleep deprivation and would realize that most of my studying went to waste due to me being unable to remember anything that I studied.

A Great Semester

Overall the pace of the semester was the same throughout. Every week had a regular amount of workload that would not interfere with the workload of my other classes. I found both the slides and the textbook to be a great source of information and both were not overly wordy or confusing. The information was well presented and informative. Each assignment was enjoyable and made me eager to complete the next. However my only complaint is that I wish the assignment were more similar to the adaptive practices. I feel as though the adaptive practices provided more information than the information provided in each assignment. Besides that, each exam were relatively easy and any information presented had already been covered in textbook and slide topics. Lastly, the style of teaching was perfect and well thought out. Thank you very much for being kind and caring and I wish everyone a great rest of their semester.
