Adab in seeking knowledge & Quran is the book of guidance

This week, I learned that students must have Adab while seeking knowledge. In this era, not every student has Adab while studying in their place. As I had learned, one of the adab is we should respect when our lecture is presented in the front. Not only the lecture but our friends presented too. Moreover, have discipline! Being late to class, always postponing the assignment, but having time to hang out with friends is not what students should do. There's a saying that zina and knowledge cannot be together!

Now, let's go to how the Quran can be the book of guidance to us, Muslims. As we all know, the Quran is the first thing we should seek if we wanna be guided because in the Quran there is a lot of guidance such as guidance in solat, how we woman should cover her awrah properly etc. That is why in Surah al-Alaq there are the words "Iqra'" which means to read so if we wanna be guided read the Quran first as a source to ourselves.

this usrah we learned about how acts of worship (ʿibādah) in Islam such as prayer (ṣalāh), fasting (ṣawm), charity (zakāh), and pilgrimage (ḥajj)—help Muslims gain ḥikmah (wisdom). Each form of worship builds spiritual qualities like sincerity, self-discipline, taqwa (God-consciousness), and moral strength. These acts are not only duties but also tools for purifying the soul and drawing closer to Allah.

By understanding the deeper meaning behind these worship practices and performing them with sincerity, Muslims fulfill their purpose of creation—to worship Allah. This spiritual commitment leads to greater inner peace, moral character, and closeness to the Creator.

This week we learn about a comprehensive guide on Solat (prayer), covering its fundamental aspects such as conditions for obligation (syarat wajib), conditions for validity (syarat sah), the pillars (rukun) of solat, sunnah practices, and actions that invalidate the prayer. It emphasizes that solat is not just a physical act, but a spiritual journey requiring full presence of heart and mind. Essential preparations like wudhu (ablution) and tayammum (dry ablution) are detailed to ensure cleanliness and ritual purity, which are crucial before standing in front of Allah. The guide also touches on makruh (discouraged) actions that could affect the reward or focus of the prayer.

A key highlight is the concept of khusyu’, which refers to humility, concentration, and full awareness during solat. Although khusyu’ is not a compulsory part (rukun) of prayer, it is highly encouraged as it greatly enhances the quality and spiritual benefit of worship. The document outlines obstacles to khusyu’, such as waswas (doubts) and distractions from worldly thoughts, and provides practical steps to overcome them. These include preparing early, choosing a clean and quiet place to pray, understanding the meanings of what is recited, minimizing unnecessary movements, and ensuring that the body and mind are calm and focused. When khusyu’ is achieved, solat becomes a powerful means of drawing closer to Allah, purifying the soul, and strengthening faith.

Practicing Salah with khusyu’ nurtures sincerity, builds character, and strengthens our connection with Allah, leading to personal and spiritual growth.

For today usrah we discusses the significance and wisdom (hikmah) of fasting in the month of Ramadan from both historical and spiritual perspectives. Fasting is not only an Islamic practice but was also practiced by past religious communities such as Jews, Christians, Hindus, and Buddhists. In Islam, fasting was made compulsory in the second year after Hijrah as mentioned in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:183). The main goal of fasting, as the verse highlights, is to attain taqwa (God-consciousness). Fasting teaches self-control by avoiding food, drink, and desires from dawn to sunset, helping Muslims stay away from sins and become spiritually stronger.

The wisdom behind fasting includes promoting self-discipline, controlling desires, developing empathy for the poor, and drawing closer to Allah. It also helps purify the soul and encourages good behavior such as honesty, patience, and kindness. The document also explains that Islam gives flexibility (rukhsah) to those who are ill or traveling, allowing them to delay their fast and make it up later. Moreover, the month of Ramadan is very special because the Qur’an was revealed during this time, and it’s a month of mercy, forgiveness, and blessings.

Lastly, fasting brings many virtues such as sabr (patience), takrim (honor and self-respect), and rahmah (compassion and mercy). It trains individuals to be patient in hardship, to respect others, and to be kind-hearted. Through fasting, Muslims also strengthen social bonds, forgive others, and develop a caring character. Ultimately, fasting in Ramadan is a complete training for both the soul and the body, preparing a person to live a life of righteousness and compassion.

Our naqibah explains the meaning, importance, and virtues of Zakāh, one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Zakāh is a compulsory act of worship that requires Muslims to give a portion of their wealth to those in need. Unlike regular charity (sadaqah), Zakāh has specific rules set by Allah—including who should receive it, how much should be given, and when it should be paid. It is mentioned over 30 times in the Qur’an alongside Ṣalāh, showing its great importance in a Muslim’s life.

Zakāh brings many benefits. Spiritually, it purifies the giver’s wealth and soul, and teaches tawakkul (reliance on Allah) by reminding us not to depend too much on material wealth. Socially, it strengthens ukhūwwah (brotherhood) and builds love and unity among Muslims. By supporting the poor and fulfilling others’ needs, Zakāh helps reduce jealousy and selfishness in society. The Prophet ﷺ said that helping a fellow Muslim in need will bring Allah’s help in return, especially on the Day of Judgment.

In short, Zakāh is more than just giving money—it’s a powerful way to connect with Allah and care for others. It balances both spiritual responsibility and social justice, creating a peaceful, caring, and united Muslim community.
