Passengers on Titanic came from many different backgrounds and had different reasons for travelling. First class passengers were the wealthiest on board, and were mostly business men or politicians. First class on board Titanic was the ultimate in luxury. It is believed that the most expensive ticket on this ship cost $2,560 which would amount to $61,000 today. Fillet Mignon, Roast Duckling, Beef Sirloin and fresh oysters were served for the First Class dinners, and they had four desserts to feast on. First class passengers could enjoy the ship's swimming pool, gymnasium, squash racquet court and Turkish baths. Titanic's enormous size enabled her to feature unusually large rooms, all equipped with the latest technologies for comfort, hygiene, and convenience. he Parlour Suites each comprised two large bedrooms, two walk-in wardrobes, a private bathroom, lavatory, and a spacious sitting room.

Posted by Ms. Hannon

In terms of safety features, the Titanic featured 16 compartments, each with doors that could be closed from the bridge, allowing water to be confined if the hull was damaged. The bulkheads were not capped at the top, despite the fact that they were assumed to be waterproof. Four of the compartments could be flooded without jeopardizing the liner's buoyancy, according to the ship's designers. Many people believed the Titanic was unsinkable because of the system.

This shows how big the ship was and the strength of it to travel for this long without breaks or stops. It had 3 engines with two reciprocating four-cylinder, triple-expansion steam engines and one centrally placed low-pressure parsons turbine. Two of the engines have a joint horsepower of 30,000.

Among these rumors were tales that Captain Smith faced pressure from the White Star Line to keep up the ship’s speed, or that he ignored warnings from other ships about the presence of icebergs. In fact, after the disaster, both the United States and the United Kingdom launched inquiries to determine whether or not the White Star Line was liable for damages related to loss of life and property. Among the important questions these inquiries investigated were what role speed and ice warnings played in the accidentaptain Edward Smith

Captain Edward Smith is most famous for his role at the helm of the Titanic, the disastrous last voyage in his successful career at sea. Edward Smith was born the son of a potter on January 27th, 1850 in Hanley, Staffordshire, England. In 1880, Smith made the jump from commercial shipping to passenger ships when he was hired as a junior officer with the White Star Line. In 1887, he commanded his first ship, the Baltic.
