The problems within poverty changed overtime. In the 1800s there was a large amount of overpopulation in certain areas, this caused disease and minimum housing options. Wages were so low in the 1800's many couldn't even afford food. Many of the problems for the 1800s continue to be a problem today, like disease. COVID 19 hit America in 2019, rapidly increasing poverty once again. Building codes and Settlement houses were created in the 1800's, today there are Homeless shelters, fundraisers, SSI, SNAP, EITC programs. This is such a significant thing because we can see how much America is changing.
