He would say that the pavilions are well designed because they say what they intended to say. They record a journey from urban to countryside. The first pavilion, closest to the urban area is neoclassical, whereas the second one is gothic, which is a typical style for England, both for urban area and the countryside. The third one is made from local materials such as stone, wood, bricks, which gives the pavilion a more local feature and leads us to think about countryside.

Standing in front of the Finsbury Health Centre, Ruskin would probably draw our attention to the way the building serves its purpose as a place where people become patients and can get the assistance they need. The building probably does fulfill its brief fairly well in a merely utilitarian way, although I did not get the feeling of reassurance and comfort an health centre should give. Ruskin would ask us whether we could take pleasure out of looking at the building. Whilst I appreciated the ground breaking appeal of the structure when it was first built, I struggled to perceive joy and pleasure in the place

It has the largest library dedicated to the architecture and used to have examination halls for architectural students. It “looks well” for the period of time it was built in (1920s) and represents Art deco style quite well. Speaks well if considerig statues of famous architects that were built on the facade to tell the visitors that the building is dedicated to the architecture.

Both estates focus on practicality. They focus on allowing the flow of people using ground height differences in order to separate private and public areas. Ruskin states that things need to do what they intend to do in the best way and this fits perfectly with both estates. The combination of natural and brutalist architecture in a relatively small space focuses on the point that Ruskin makes about looking well. The natural space and features e.g. flowers allow the concrete to be softened and less harsh on the eye which perfectly fits the statement by Ruskin. He considers why the building exists throughout and this set of structures perfectly suits Ruskin’s ideology
