The shining faces of many students beaming up at their professor, a role model and inspiration, on the stage of Voertman Hall was truly a sort of gift to be able to witness. Eric Nestler and Xiao Wang performed a magnificent concert Thursday night and the pieces they included were breathtaking. From the way the somber tones of I. Mirror Talk seemed to wail out of Nestler’s instrument with human-like empathy, to IV. Hologram’s mischievous, brilliantly maleficent-sounding melodies, the musical pair in the middle of the Voertman stage had every form of life so still it seemed as if everyone was frozen at gunpoint. Throughout the entire duration of the concert, the unity I felt in the pleasantly entertained crowd over something so fundamentally simple as notes on a page brought to life by masterful craftsman was something fairly new to me that I truly couldn’t get over. It truly intensified the meaning and emotion of the music being performed, and to say I thoroughly enjoyed this concert experience would be an understatement.
