Yes I have read the book The First Days of School. This book was like my "bible" when I started teaching. It has great ideas on classroom management, discipline and tips for new teachers. What would I ask Harry? If he were to rewrite this book today how different would it be from the one he wrote in 1991?Harry Wong?

Q3.3 Overcoming darkness is something that can be difficult to do. I believe it's important to focus on the "now" and be present in the classroom, thinking of the minds that want to be involved in the "now" and achieve academic success. By being present, darkness can be overcome by the joy in the classroom.

There have been times when I think our to-do list is just too much. I consider my personal life to be very important and I have chosen to not work from home so I can spend time with my family. It is a hard balance, but in order for it not cloud my professional life I eat lunch in my classroom and work. Sometimes I do minimal socializing and close my door in order to leave work at school.

3 Q2 When did you let your personal life cloud your professional life? How did you overcome?
I don't think there has been a big event in my life that has clouded my professional life yet but I have come to work with a lot of weight on my shoulder for personal matters. During these times I try to listen to Christian music or listen to a podcast so I can start getting things off my mind before I make it to work. Other times when these don't help me I simply just cry and let it all out. When nonce of these work then I opt to be honest with my kids and let them know that I going through a hard time without much details but I assure them that I will feel better throughout the day. My kids appreciate the honesty and believe or not they make me feel so much better.

I think that something needs to be done to help the teachers with students who have behavioral issues. The teachers need some tools to protect them and the students in their classroom. It was interesting how dated this book is - I know it was not the focus of the chapter but the teacher did a lot of restraining that one cannot do in this day and age.
