Anthrology studies humankind, and divides into three key categorie: archealogy , cultural antropology, and physical antropology, also known as biological anthropology. The latter development and growth, genetics, human evolution, modern human variabilty, primatology and related subjects. Specifically , forensic anthropology identifies skeletal human remains where bones are the only evidence. Often, these may have been burned beyond recognition, or may have been mutilated by explosives, as the result of an airplane crash or train collision, for example. Forensic anthropologists often assist in the investigation of rime, such as murder involving dismemberment of the victim, and frequently examine and analyze human remains that may be in a state of advanced decomposition.

The human body

The body of an adult human contains a total of 206 bones, which vary in size, thickness and shape. Among the biggest of our bones is the femur which is the thigh bone. A bone is composed of dense minerals, mainly calcium, the skeleton can survive for many centuries after death.

Teeth are constructed of hard and durable materials too, known as dentin, enamel, and cementum. These enable teeth to survive even better conceal the identity of an individual. In some cases where acids or other corrosive substances have been used to deface them, teeth may be altered by the process of decalcification, but they still remain to provide clues to the identity of the perosn concerned.
