The students often act defensively in class when they do not understand sth and I am in the dfc situation to balance in quite diversiful classes and prevent conflicts in class. If all students are actively engaged, possible problems can be avoided up to a point. I consider it is the teacher's duty to be aware of the sts diversities lingulistic, cultural and social and prepare the students for co-existence.

I dedicate the first class i see them to introducing to each other. I ask about their brothers and sisters because they are often related to older students and try to earn as much info as possible through a questionaire they fill in and a placement test which helps me understand their lingulistic level.

I benefit from every opportunity to engage them and their native language in my classes as I strongly believe it is good for everydody and especially for them to feel welcome.
