- Ensure the resources, books you use recognize local and global perspectives; if they do not, use these as starting points for discussion/critical questioning
- Embrace students' prior knowledge, interests, and strengths by ensuring they take part in knowledge creation in their own way (suited to learning style whether it be orally, written, via media/tech, etc)
- Talk about social justice issues students may be hearing/reading about in the media
