NAME:PARAS,JOHN HENRY D.
YEAR AND SECTION:3rd year 3EDSST5A
For me the significant resemblance that I could take from the Vietnam war was during the time when we were fending off the American occupation in 1899.our very similarity was we both wanted to have our own control over our country with US involvement ,Thu vietnam had done and establish itself firmly in one go lately due to the aftermath of world war 2 when they vanquish the French forces occupying them but then come the problem of being divided(similar to north and south Korean tension) due to communist belief that is spreading in the Indo-china continent which the American superiority wishes to contain. That Involvement leads us to another similarity when the American wanted to assert control since they bought us from the Spanish government in the treaty of Venice and since we wanted to establish our freedom and liberation we revolt by our revolutionary government which state to gain our freedom. while in Vietnam they revolt with that matter but had to fight with their own countrymen due to political beliefs that separated them, the American presence during the early events of the war in Vietnam were just aids however since communism is involve they had to go all in thus creating more tension in the divide that was brought by the NFL(Vietcom) who wanted to unify their county through communism. We both fight the American Government with guerilla tactics but end up into 2 different result cause for the Philippines we failed to wit stand the forces and we just conceive and just plead for our independence which was given freely bybthe US later on after world war 2. Vietnam NFL movement on the other hand manage to outlast and exhaust America which at the time need to respond to other proxy wars that he was settling with the soviet union,as a result the communist regime reign into Vietnam and later on spread into Indo-china continent.

Why and How?

The Vietnam War was a long, costly and divisive conflict that pitted the communist government of North Vietnam against South Vietnam and its principal ally, the United States.

Political leader Ho Minh, inspired by Chinese and Soviet communism—formed the Viet Minh, or the League for the Independence of Vietnam. Following its 1945 defeat in World War II, Japan withdrew its forces from Vietnam, leaving the French-educated Emperor Bao Dai in control. Seeing an opportunity to seize control, Ho’s Viet Minh forces immediately rose up, taking over the northern city of Hanoi and declaring a Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV) with Ho as president.

Both sides wanted the same thing: a unified Vietnam. But while Ho and his supporters wanted a nation modeled after other communist countries, Bao and many others wanted a Vietnam with close economic and cultural ties to the West.

In relation to our historical context, American occupation was also there, trying to invade our country secretly by suing Spanish colonizers out of our country. We also had resistance against foreign colonizers like what Vietnamese people wanted. The only difference is that we are not scattered or divided unlike the south and north Korea’s situation. Americans were afraid with the widespread communism ideology throughout south Asian countries so that, they were trying to help the south Vietnam to remove this and raise a unified and one country Vietnam. After the 2 decades war, they come up with peace agreement and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam was created.

SENOBIO, GINALYN N.
3rd year-3EDSST5A

I think the common denominator of Vietnam War and to the experience of Philippine was that the war did not rooted to United States involvement, but to each former colonial rule, Spanish to Philippines on the other side, French to Vietnamese. The war just prospered because United States intervened in the fear of these colonies fall in the hands of European countries. Aside from that, their Asia contains many valuable natural resources, like rice, coffee, rubber, fish, and seafood that makes it more prospect in subjucation of U.S. Another profound similarities of these countries was the sparked of resistance and nationalism of PH and Vietnam against United States aggression. Moreover, these both countries adopted the guerilla warfare to counter American military forces. This tactic was really effective because they were able to pretend as civilians and intermingle with the general population. With that, its was easy for them to imbed traps like landmine to disavantsge American military forces. they also used the populace to cooperate with them to execute their plan deliberately. Consequently, U.S. troops began to suspect villagers and burned villages them. They also tortured suspected guerrillas and terrorized civilians who cooperated with the members of the said revolution. The contrast were the kind of military weapon used by U.S to fight these two countries. Nuclear war even probihited was used in Vietnam in hope to defeat their forces. The use fire and the spread of noxious chemical was an attempt to expose Vietnamese hiding place and to drained their resources. However, with the help of China, North Vietnam able to gained control of the entire Vietnam. In contrast to Filipino-America war, I haven't heard of such weaponry being used that time but I wonder if U.S did not because even not a feasible option, U.S used that to demonstrate their power in Vietnam. All in all, the major similarities and commonalities in these war was the destruction, impoverishment and death that many Americans, Vietnamese, Filipinos and the rest of the people involved and witness the actual events.

DE CHAVEZ, IRA B.
3EDSST5A
The biggest similarities I can see between wartime Philippines and Vietnam is that they were both caught in the crossfire of two conflicting countries. The Philippines fell victim to Japanese rule during the second world war. The Japanese occupation here was driven by their desire to keep American power in check in its neighboring countries. Vietnam, however, fell victim to inner conflict between two differing ideologies. North Vietnam was leaning to becoming a communist society, which led to communist countries like the Soviet Union and China. Seeing this as a threat, the US, who were sworn enemies with the Soviet Union at that time, chose to assist the southern part of Vietnam in its desire to unify the country. Asians were naturally victims of war for decades because of conflicts of westerners in their quest for global conquest. This is no different.

Name: Santos, Jomalee Luchie C.
Year and Section: Third Year 3EDSST5A

What happened in the Philippine history is completely different upon what happened in Vietnam and their War, When the Japanese occupation take place in Asia, Philippines local citizens fought Japanese with the help of American soldiers, thus in Vietnam a communist army named Vietminh lead by Ho Chi Minh battled with Japan army until they surrender in Word War 2. Afterwards, Vietnam fought in Indochina war and America back up France, eventually Vietnam was divided in to two state having distinct beliefs.

In my perception, the resemblance between the Vietnam War and Filipino experience is the influence and affiliation of western people, both European nations and America are in the midst of the countries conflict. Furthermore, the similitude of the two countries is they are trying to free themselves against any foreign control and both of them are seeking independence for their country. However unlike Vietnam, Philippines didn't experience the division of belief linking to anti and communist regime, Since the Philippines are conquered by the western for hundreds of year the Filipino people are much likely influence by their beliefs and ideology, thats why up to modern day period, Philippines is still adapting the capitalist system. Vietnam wanted freedom against foreign rule as well as to have peace inside the country and be unified.

NAME : CABALQUINTO, KAYLA Q.
YEAR AND SECTION; THIRD YEAR 3EDSST5A

The conflict in Southeast Asia Had a roots in the French colonial period when the French imposed a colonial system over Vietnam, and in my own interpretations the similarities of Vietnam and Philippines they wanted to have own control in their own territory, and they are both been affected of the powerful countries conflicts because of their rivalry when it comes to power and in controlling a territory therefore the Philippines and Vietnam are both conquered and under control by dominant country. Such as the Philippine was colonize by American and the Vietnam was colonized by French as well, and the Biggest similarities of the history of Vietnam war and in the Philippine history when the Japanese occupied these two countries through invasion, we know Philippines was a victim by the Japanese ruled which the Philippines was suffered for so many years under control of Japanese, when it comes in Vietnam even the French colonized already the Vietnam still Japanese troops invade French Indochina and occupy Vietnam with little French resistance. Japanese forces took just a week to secure control of Vietnam it seem the Asia are victims in a war by a dominant countries cause of their objectives is to extend their power and ruler in other territories.

The first one was they both colonized by the United States though Vietnam was also first under French Empire and Philippines was in Spanish Empire yet we've seen how these two took by the hand of a powerful countries. Secondly was adopting democracy from the United States but there’s a contrast in the ending of this, Vietnamese under Ho Chi Minh fight for their Independence and as being communist and there will no longer democracy since then while the Philippines, also fight for Independence but we are still rooted and under by their teaching and beliefs. We know that the Philippines and Vietnam are not a powerful country during that time but obviously, we are just conquering by them but we’ve seen how heroes of these both countries are caught in the crossfire to fight the independence of their nation. In my conclusion, I salute all of the people who offer their lives for the sake of the whole nation and and the next generations. We now see these two countries similarities which also imparted of belief, culture, and way of living from colonizing of powerful country.

Bautista, Drigo P.
3EDSST5A

From the video showed, I see that there's a similarity into our experienced as Filipino. Vietnam and Philippines had been influenced by other countries. We are colonial country and we've been shaped by their cultures. Honestly speaking, Philippine and Vietnam cannot fight alone and they need the support of others, they have to ask help from other countries in order to gain what they want and what they are fighting for. American involvement in the Philippine crisis represented a brave new step for the country because it had emerged from its former state of isolation. However, by the time the Vietnam War began, America felt obligated to participate simply because it was the most powerful nation in the world militarily and had much experience in warfare and foreign relations. Vietnam struggled for its independence from France in the First Indochina War. It was divided into North Vietnam, which fell under the control of Communists, and South Vietnam, which attempted to establish a republican form of government. The Northern Vietnamese were determined to reunite Vietnam under Communist rule. However, the United States subscribing to the “Domino Theory” was determined to prevent this from occurring. Essentially, this theory stated that if one country fell under Communist rule, then many others would follow in a chain reaction, or domino effect. As a comparison of the Philippine and Vietnam experience makes crystal clear, the whole nature of war has changed. We have changed it through our emphasis on weapons technology and our reliance on the modern weapons that the technology has produced.

Name: GUBALLO, Trisha May H.
Year and Section: 3EDSST5A

The Vietnam War is one of the global conflicts brought about by the differing ideologies of Western countries. As the story goes, Vietnam was divided into two when the northern part wanted a communist society, which was later assisted by Communists countries, Soviet Union and China. America, in fear of Communism spreading through all of Asia, worst case scenario, the whole world, assisted the Southern Part of Vietnam in an attempt to prevent this from happening. Thus, the Vietnam war began. This was another case of superpowers fighting over an Asian country in hopes of spreading their influences, the same thing that happened in the country almost time and time again in recent history. Filipinos were under the rule of Westerners for more than three centuries, with countries trying to inculcate their ideologies to us. The Spanish wanted Catholicism to rule in our country. Americans bought us from the Spanish to be colonies of them as well. I highly doubt that Americans would help us fend off the Japanese during the second world war if we did not have any use for us. Filipinos were fought over by stronger countries because of the utility that they would get from us in return, similar to Vietnam during America and Russia’s cold war.

Decolonization of East and Southeast Asia
ASSIGNMENT NO. 6
JOMOC, TREXA MARJOY C
3RD YR/ 3EDSST5A

The Vietnam War as the resistance war against America and considered a Cold War. Cold War tensions and Imperialist tendencies the Americans had previously fought so hard against made the war in Vietnam one of America's darkest pages in its short but dense history. This caused great damage and 58,000 Americans would die as too would 250,000 South Vietnamese Soldiers over a million North Vietnamese soldiers, over 2 millions civilian from both the north and the south and thousands more from Laos and Cambodia. An armistice was the signed splitting Vietnam Into two parts along the 17th parallel separated by a Demilitarized Zone.
In all of this, we can see the difference between the experience of the Philippines and Vietnam, because we can see that the two sides fought part of Vietnam, this is the South and North that i can compare to Korea. Vietnam is one that believes in communism and one that believes in democracy so there was a conflict on the side of the two alliances. In i see in their similarity is that they are both conquered by Japan and also influenced by westerners. Catholicism also contributed to the life of the Vietnamese who were influenced by westerners like in the philippines one of the religions that spread catholicism and to this day we still carry and believe it.

Both the Philippines and Vietnam experienced colonization of another country like the United States. As we all know the Philippines experienced a lot of suffering in the hand of the US and even Vietnam. Also, both of these countries are prone to the colonization of other countries, like in the video Vietnam experienced first colonization by France and then followed by the United States. In the Philippines, we are first colonized by Spain and then it follows by the United States. The loss of everything that countries own and deaths. More over this two countries are great protecting its nation ,staying its independency. The difference between the two scenario is that Vietnam gain support from other countries to gain it’s independence while the revolution that been made by the Pilipino’s is been done by only them.

ASSIGNMENT: UNIT 6

GALANGUE, ANGELOU O.
3EDSST5A

After watching the video I realized that the Vietnam war derived its root from cold war were the major powers are competing with each other in spreading their ideologies. I see that there’s a similarity into our experienced as Filipino. Both of them are invaded by different countries. The types of warfare and atrocities committed during both conflicts are comparable, while factors such as war objectives and motivations differ greatly. I personally feel that the United States had a better cause for fighting the Vietnam War, even though it was our first major military defeat. Despite the American loss, it was more worthwhile to fight in the Vietnam War than in the Philippine Insurrection because the United States had a more laudable reason for involvement. American involvement in the Philippine crisis represented a brave new step for the country because it had emerged from its former state of isolation. However, by the time the Vietnam War began, America felt obligated to participate simply because it was the most powerful nation in the world militarily and had much experience in warfare and foreign relations. Since the end of the Cold War, relations between the two countries have warmed significantly. Vietnam is sometimes referred to as the only communist military ally of the Philippines. Both nations have cooperated in the fields of education, tourism, agriculture, aquaculture, trade, and defense.

Cremen, Marky C
3EDSST5A

after watching the video, there are many similarities that we experience as Filipino during world war II. Vietnam conquered by the french. like in the Philippines, we are invaded by the Japanese during world war II and the united states help the Philippines to fight against the Japanese colonizer to gain our independence. Vietnam also fights back against its colonizer to gain their independence. Vietnam has become separated from each other; South Vietnam and its capital are Saigon, and North Vietnam and its capital are Hanoi. during world war II, the Philippine army unites to fight back against the Japanese military. also, Vietnam unites to fight back against the French colonization with the help of the United States. the Philippines and Vietnam are both aided by the United States during the war. it is also a sign of colonization, that is experienced by both countries. Filipino people and Vietnamese people are very courageous to fight for their independence.

Ibardolaza, Jovelyn T.
3EDSST5A

Based on my understanding about ‘Vietnam war’. One of the similarities of Vietnam war and Philippines is all about war and colonizing each country, in the case of Vietnam war, the war begins when France wants to colonize Vietnam, then in Philippines because Japan wants to seize our land to expand their power and get our spices they pursue to fight for it. Another similarity is many people died because of war and in result many casualties are counted from both, they also experienced violence, abuses and fear in every person under their jurisdiction in both Philippines and Vietnam. They fought for their independence for those who wants to against with them or want to colonize them. The difference is at first they are not united, South Vietnam was conquered the North Vietnam which immediate caused unity of the country and made it as one called socialist republic of Vietnam. Way back, it is temporary division of the country into two military zones at latitude 17 °N (popularly called the 17th parallel). They are also find a support in other countries to achieve independence. While isn’t happen in Philippines because Filipino’s fight as one and revolutionize to seek it’s independence. Japanese colonizer did not win against Americans because it is during WWII when Japan surrender in Douglas MacArthur. By the way, Americans help the Philippines to stand and teach in terms of political system.

They were conquered by Japanese and they were also invaded by United State which turns out to be their ally when Japanese came like how they help us during the invasion of Japanese here in the Philippines. They teach and give us military materials.

Vietnamese also founded revolutionary movement anti the invasion of French. Like how Filipino Guerillas during the Japanese and Spanish era. They also experience corruption and suppression of Religion from Chinese; similar how Spaniards colonized the Philippines and religion was a big deal for them. They give importance to it as the only way of salvation and life. Vietnamese people experience the same fate of different colonization of different countries in different ways of life and policy. They also fight for their rights against capitalism and was tagged as traitors. Killed and exile by powerful countries for freedom. Been a puppet and asked for their lives. They also experienced poverty.

The only difference I saw was they were categories as two dominion which never happened in any of the invasion here in the Philippines. The same trauma and the ached of Filipinos during war and the invasion. They need to accept the fact that they need to learn how to use guns in order to protect themselves.

BERNARDEZ, Jamie B.
3EDSST5A

The greatest link I can see between the Vietnam and Philippines during the war is that both of them were trapped in the two opposing countries. The Vietnam War was a long, expensive and divisive fight that pitted North Vietnam's communist government against South Vietnam and the United States, its main ally. The continuing Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union intensified the conflict. In the Vietnam War, more than 3 million people were killed, and over half of the dead were Vietnamese civilians. Even after President Richard Nixon ordered the withdrawal of U.S. troops in 1973, resistance to the war in the United States bitterly divided Americans. By taking control of South Vietnam in 1975, Communist forces ended the war, and the country was reunited the following year as the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. While in the Philippines, the Battle of Manila in 1945 was one of many bloody encounters between the American forces and the Japanese Army.

Indochina was controlled by France up until World War 2 when France was invaded by Nazi Germany and Japan invaded Indochina. The Japanese ruled through the former French protectorate Emperor Bao Dai as a puppet. Ho Chi Minh was the leader of Viet Minh, a communist army who rose up against the Japanese occupiers. After the defeat of Japanese in 1945, the Viet Minh declared Vietnamese independence with the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and Hanoi as its capital, and extended their war against the French, becoming the First Indochina war.
The similarities of Vietnamese and Filipinos are that, during the war, we are both captured by Japanese occupation. We are affected by the misunderstanding of two powerful nations. They were both vanquished by the Japanese Empire that caused them so much annihilation, financial misfortune and lives of the individuals. In the Philippines, HUKBALAHAP (Hukbo ng Bayan Laban sa Hapon), a guerilla group headed by Luis Taruc.
