Received Pronunciation, often abbreviated to RP, is an accent of spoken English. Unlike other UK accents, it's identified not so much with a particular region as with a particular social group, although it has connections with the accent of Southern England. RP is associated with educated speakers and formal speech. It has connotations of prestige and authority, but also of privilege and arrogance.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/voices/yourvoice/rpandbbc.shtml

Estuary English is an English dialect or accent associated with South East England, especially the area along the River Thames and its estuary, centering around London. Phonetician John C. Wells proposed a definition of Estuary English as "Standard English spoken with the accent of the south-east of England" but criticised the notion that the spread of language from London to the southeast was anything new.[1] The name comes from the area around the Thames, particularly its Estuary. Estuary English can be heard from some people in London, north Surrey,[2] Kent, southHertfordshire and Essex. Estuary English shares many features with Cockney, and there is some debate among linguists as to where Cockney speech ends and Estuary English begins.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estuary_English

The importance of accents and dialects

As we have read, 'Received Pronunciation' is the most acceptable form of English Pronunciation. It is the accent described as 'Typically British' and all present-day descriptions of 'Standard English' are based on it. But also, there are other types of accents as 'Estuary English' and 'Cockney' used by hundreds of British people according to their place of residence. In this way, we can affirm that the language may suffer some variations in its structure depending on the accents of the speakers. For example, the sound 'th' in 'something' is pronounced with the sound 'f': 'somefing' by individuals that use the Cockney accent. Therefore, it is very important to take into account all British accents and dialects that exist in order to avoid misunderstandings in the communication between native and non-native speakers.
We know that the accent reflects the unique characteristics and background of a person. However, some people may have difficulty to communicate because their accents are differents. Thus, it is necessary to realize that RP is not the unique accent that exist. There are several accents that identify people with their place of residence and the speakers should take into account to them since these can affect comprehension provoking that individuals do not interpret what you really want to say and they feel frustration because they have to repeat phrases or words, among others.
