Friday’ session with Alex Amaye taught me about different aspects of team building and working as a team. I completely agree with Bill Belichick quote “For a team to accomplish their goal, everybody’s got to give up a little bit of their individuality”, it highlights how team members should preform in a team. I learned that for a team succeed it is critical that each individual person in the team take their best characteristic and use it to enhance the team. My team was made up of myself, Josh, Karl, Luke, Jacqui and Emily. We all wrote down our best skills and use those roles in the team.

We went through the different stages of forming a team and how a team works. There are five stages in team development are forming, storming, norming, performing and adjourning. Alexis went through how successful teams plan what they are going to do before doing anything else. This allows there to be specific roles and a specialisation allowing for the team to work faster. It allows the team to work more efficiently. Once we were divided into our teams we were given a bit of improv to work on. At least three people in the team had to act out the scenario we were given. Three of us acted out the scenario of bad communication. I completely agree with the quote by Bill Belichick in order to succeed everyone must form into a singular team.

Response

In response to Colin’s post I agree with his point that a team is much more complex than individuals with shared goals working together. A good team works as one and each individual plays a key role in aiding the team.

After attending last Friday’s class with Dr. Alexis Amaye, I learnt a lot about teamwork. She was telling us the difference between a team and a group. I found this a very true ad interesting concept. A group is just a number of people put together while a team is a group of people put together however they are working together on a specific task, communicating together well and understanding each other’s strengths and weaknesses and using them to help the team. I found this interesting because anyone can make a group of people but it takes a lot of entrepreneurial skills to make that group a team.

According to Bill Belichick’s quote on teamwork I feel that it connects well with Alexis class last Friday. Bill is saying that everyone needs to offer their own skills and to use them in the team in order for it to be successful. Last Friday we were put into groups and had to list everyone in our group’s individual skill. Then after this we did a teamwork activity, we could then all focus on our skill to help the team achieve the goal.

I would agree with Padraig when he talks about how each individual should put the team above their individual needs to make a successful team. I found this very important to put the teams needs first as the team is greater then the individual within the team.

In last Fridays session with Dr. Amaye I feel I gained a more rounded and competent understanding of the importance of collaboration between individuals within a team setting. Dr. Amaye spoke about the difference between being a group and being a team, that whilst a group may just be a random selection of people grouped together a team a carefully selected group working together with one common goal in mind.

We were confronted with the task of being put into a hypothetical scenario where we, as a team had to deal with and appropriately resolve an issue with another team member. I found this probably the most valuable aspect of Friday's session as it highlighted how a pause for contemplation as oposed to rushing into rash decicions based on emotional factors can be so crucial in resolving matters which may pose problematic.

With regards to Bill Belichick's quote, I agree wholeheartedly in that victory cannot possibly be achieved without sacrafice. From my own personal experience from playing in rugby teams I can both relate to and fully understand the quote.

In response to Joshua's quote i concur that the creation of a team manifesto at the outset of any project is of paramount importance to the project itself.

I found Bill Belichick's quote to be applicable to Dr. Amaye session on collaboration last Friday.

At the beginning of the class she describes what was the difference between a team and a group. Although the differences were quite easy to pick out, it was much harder to put into practice as we found out later on.

Afterwards she told us the stages of transitioning from a group to a team and I will definitely utilise this in future group work.

Towards the end of the class she gave us a task of doing an improv of a given word, such as my groups "Deadweight". We quickly decided what to do and where although some people disagreed, we had to "Give up a little bit of our individuality" to accomplish our group goal which I found to be crucial in order for our group to become a team.

In response to Eliza's entry, I agree that it is important for a team to "understanding each other's strengths and weaknesses" in order to become a team

Friday’s class with Dr Alexis Amaye was an interesting class and her approach to helping us understand collaboration is very beneficial. Through active learning I develop the skills and an understanding of the elements of collaboration. Working together as a team to carry out the scenario was a great way to help us understand collaboration as in our group, we all agreed to participate in the activity. We were all able to utilize our skills to help in the activity which allowed us to collaborate properly and play to our strengths. We also got feedback from Alexis and I found this very important as we can all learn from the mistakes we made individually and as a team.

I agree with Bill Belichick’s quote, we can not be selfish when working in a team and must make sacrifices for the team. The most important thing is the goal of the team and we can not let our individual beliefs and goals to interrupt or hinder the team’s performance and goals.

I agree with Ben when he says “how a pause for contemplation as opposed to rushing into rash decisions based on emotional factors can be so crucial in resolving matters which may pose problematic” This is important as we can not let our personal conflicts affect our rationality and how we make decision that affect not only us but the team

I wholeheartedly agree with Bill Belichick's thoughts on teamwork and collaboration. He said "for a team to accomplish their goal, everybody's got to give up a bit of their individuality". In my opinion each member of the group must have the team's final goal at their best interest and everything else comes after that. Sometimes a member of a group has to sacrifice a a bit of individuality and this is what makes the group into a team.
In last Friday's class with Dr. Alexis Amaye we learned how to work in a team environment and how to collaborate with other members of the group. In this group we were asked to act out an unfavourable topic such as bad communication, a deadweight team member etc. This forced the team to collaborate and each individual had to put the team's best interest at heart. Although all team members did not want to participate, each felt they should 'take one for the team'.
There was six members on my team, Brian, Luke, Josh, Jacqui, Emily and myself. Each one of us shared our best skills and as a result we could see the role that each member could play in the team.
I agree with Eliza when she says "anyone can make a group of people but it takes a lot of entrepreneurial skills to make that group a team".

I learned a lot from our class last Friday with Dr Alexis Amaye, I found her message clearly reflected in Bill Belichicks quote. It truly reinforces the concept of putting the interests of the team before your own individual desires. I also enjoyed Daniel's analogy of the footballer who stopped playing when they were winning instead continuing on and trying to make himself look good. I think in a lot of group settings you focus on yourself and what you can do best, whereas it's more important when working in a team to consider everybody's strengths and weaknesses. I found the collaborative exercise we did where we had to act out a scene, showed straight away the structure of our team and allowed me to see how the skills we had learned could me used.

In response to Jennifer's entry I agree that working in a team "we were all able to utilize our skills to help in the activity which allowed us to collaborate properly and play to our strengths". Each person in a team has different skills and it is important to delegate work in such a way, as to do what is best for the team.

Amaye is really able to express the necessities which are vital in the everyday world of entrepreneurship. Not only did i get a better understanding of the individual workmanship but a better understanding of how important teamwork is. As the old saying goes, "there is no 'I' in team". We as a team were able to conduct a scenario based on an employee which was treated unfairly in the workplace by a higher authority and resulted in the employee complaining to the H.R. This exercise was done in a humorous manner however it showed us the importance of fair workmanship inside the workplace.

In relation to the comparison between Bill Belichicks quote and the session with Dr Alexis Amaye,
