         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong><em>1. Color Coding</em></strong><br>Materials: different colored pom poms</div><div>Directions</div><ol><li>Dump all the pom poms in one pile on the floor</li><li>Ask your child to categorize the pom poms into matching colors</li><li>If the child is stuck you can help guide them</li></ol><div><br></div><div><strong><em>2. Candle experiment</em></strong><br> Materials: </div><ul><li>Tea candle</li><li>4 glass jars in different sizes (make sure they're large enough to fit over the tea candle)</li><li>Matches</li><li>Permanent marker</li><li>Pen or pencil</li><li>Paper</li><li>Stopwatch</li></ul><div>Directions:</div><ol><li>Begin by explaining to your child that fire needs oxygen from the air in order to burn. Ask her what she thinks will happen if you limit a candle's oxygen supply.</li><li>Light the candle and place one of your jars over it. Watch and wait until it goes out. Was this what she expected to happen? What does she think will happen if you place a larger jar over the candle? How about a smaller jar?</li><li>Put the jars in a row from smallest to largest, and help your child write the numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4 on the sides in permanent marker.</li><li>Ask her to estimate how long it will take for the candle to go out as you place each jar over it. Make a table</li><li>Light the tea candle, and place the first jar over it. As you do so, have your child start the stopwatch. How long does it take for the candle to go out? Record the actual time next to her estimate.</li><li>Repeat step four with the three remaining jars.</li><li>Compare your child's estimate to the actual length of time each candle burned. Did she predict that the candle would burn longer under larger jars?          <description><![CDATA[<ol><li>Encourage teachers to be flexible in scheduling meeting and events. Also, teachers could occasionally make a potluck to meet working parent's needs.&nbsp;</li><li>Extend a personnel welcome, and teachers should learn about their interest and abilities. Also, actively seek out opportunities for parents to use their experience and talents for the benefit of the school.&nbsp;</li><li>Create a talent survey&nbsp;</li><li>Teachers could write a parents handbook covering rules, procedures, and a guide or chat of common questions asked by adults. Most importantly, include phone numbers of people that are available for answering the questions.</li><li>Have printable materials translated English on one side, and another language on the other section. Ask the school to assists in providing a interpreter during meeting and at workshops&nbsp;</li><li>Work to increase everyone's awareness of and respect all cultures represented in schools, and invite quest speakers from different backgrounds. Also, learn about religious holidays, manners and values of different ethnicity.&nbsp;</li><li>Work with the school to create a designated area for visitors only. If parents live further away from school, visit or call the parents. Lastly, hold meetings that are easily accessible for all parents, including homes.&nbsp;</li><li>Encourage in service training in parent involvement in schools for all the staff members. Furthermore, make sure parents are welcomed to drop in at school during the day, Another solution is donating welcome to our school button to every employee.</li></ol><div><br></div>]]></description>
