East Africa is home to quite a lot of geographical wonders. The first is Mt. Kilimanjaro and Mt. Kenya. These mountains are the tallest in Africa. Not only that, but East Africa also offers the second deepest lake in the world, Lake Tanganyika.. It also offers another lake, known for being the second largest freshwater lake in the world, Lake Victoria. A lot of this region is mostly plateaus.

East Africa is very diverse in culture. There are more than 160 ethnic groups of people living here. Many languages are used here, but the main one is Swahili. East Africa is home to over 300 million people.

Eastern Africa is rich in resources, because, unlike some other regions in Africa, Eastern Africa doesn't suffer as much with the deforestation or industrialization issues that kill off wildlife. Some resources in the area include oil and natural gases. Gold and coffee are also in the region.

The people in Eastern Africa were discovered to have lived there for 300,000 years. In the time of the ancient Egyptians, the people in East Africa had a strong relationship with the country. But then, the Portuguese came to the region. The Portuguese fought with the Eastern Africans for a trade route to Asia. Eventually more colonists came and they all began to scramble for territories. France, Portugal, and Germany all made territories in Eastern Africa. After World War 2, the territories in Africa were removed and the Eastern Africans gained independence.

West Africa

West Africa, in a geographical sense, is basic. No big mountains, deep lakes, just plains. All plains. The northern part is semiarid, but other than that, the region is very basic and boring. Mali, Ghana, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, and the Ivory Coast are the main countries in the region and they take up a fifth of the land mass in Western Africa.

The culture of West Africa is very diverse, and although its about half the size of East Africa, West Africa has around 380 million people. People in this region play soccer and a board game called Oware. Some dishes in the region include peanut butter stew, and fried beans. Most people are either Islam, Christian, or other traditional religions.

Western Africa is a very resourceful place. They have diamonds, gold, timber, bauxite, manganese, and oil. They also export fish, cotton, and iron. Deforestation and urbanization is a big issue in West Africa. This also includes overfishing.

Just like many other parts of Africa, this was one of humanity's first homes. Humans have been living here for ten thousand years. But eventually, Portugal came and then Portugal and West Africa started trading. Eventually, European countries flooded the scene all wanting slaves to trade with. Soon, a meeting was held deciding who owned what territories in Africa. Western Africa was claimed by Germany, Britain, and France. After World War 2, countries in Africa gained their independence.

North Africa

North Africa, like its eastern neighbor (and unlike its western) is a very exciting place in geography terms. The region is home to the Sahara desert, the largest sand desert in the world, bigger than the United States of America. The region is also home to the Atlas Mountains, a large chain of mountains that separates the Sahara from the sea. North Africa is also home to the Nile River, the longest in the World, making this region probably the most geographically exciting. If only they could share the Sahara or Nile with Western Africa...

Culture in the region is also pretty amazing, as its home to Egypt, known for some of the most interesting sights in the world. The people in this region mainly follow Islam and it's, of course, very diverse culture-wise. Main sports in the region include Handball, Volleyball, Basketball, and Soccer. Arabic is the main language.

North Africa is also very resourceful, with it having access to oil, natural gas, uranium, and gold. It's also rich with wildlife.

Northern Africa was home to the Ancient Egyptians, a group of people you've most likely heard of before. They created a long list of inventions we use everyday, but that's for another time. The Greeks and Romans eventually colonized and then other European nations came to take away Africa's resources to grow their empire. France was the biggest one in North Africa. After World War 2, North Africa gained it's independence.

Central Africa

Central Africa has some pretty lovely geography. Central Africa is home to the Congo River, the second largest river in Africa, only second to that of the Nile, and it's second in the speed of the river rapids. The area also includes the Chad Basin and several other lakes. The Congo area of Central Africa houses many rainforests and ecosystems, whilst the north of Central Africa is full of deserts.

Central Africa is also very diverse, like every other part of Africa. It's divided up into 11 ethnic groups, and has a wide range of languages. Many areas in Central Africa are in poverty due to the lack of a good economy. The people in Central Africa are among the poorest on the planet. The people mainly follow Islam and Christianity.

The resources in the area include oil, diamonds, gold, and uranium. The people in the region work tirelessly in the mineshafts hoping to get a diamond and sell it to escape the poverty in Central Africa. Food shortages are common in the north, as they don't get much rainfall.

Early societies formed in Central Africa, and they learned to farm. Bananas were important crops to these people. Central Africa produced goods for other regions, and things were going well. Then, like it does in every region, Europeans came to town and they wanted slaves. The population decrease lead to outbreaks like smallpox being able to take of Central Africa. Eventually the colonies left after World War 2.

Unlike West Africa, Southern Africa is very diverse. it doesn't have any fancy geographical wonders like the Nile, or Mt. Kilimanjaro, no, South Africa has a diverse landscape ranging from deserts, to rainforests, to plateaus. A majority of the countries in Southern Africa are large geographically speaking.

68 million people live in South Africa, and there are two language groups, Khoisan and Bantu. A majority of Southern Africa worships Christianity.

Southern Africa has better infrastructure, healthcare, economy, and government than the other African regions. They export diamonds, platinum, gold, copper, and uranium.

South Africa and East Africa is where scientists believe Homo Sapiens originated from millions of years ago. Europeans later came to the region, and at first, they traded resources with the Europeans, but then, slave trade started and the Southern Africans sold prisoners of war and criminals to the Europeans for resources like guns.
