Amy Sillman a visual artist from New York and is an influential figure of 21st century painting. She is best known for her process based paintings in which she works intuitively between the figurative and abstract. She explores themes such as humour and character whilst dealing with the material itself, like colour, gesture and layering. Sillman’s works are noticeably loose and playful.

“ I think of them (paintings) as being a bit like little experimental movies or animations in the studio. I don’t know what I’m going to end up with. So, I love the idea of foregrounding process, and the ways of thinking that lie inside abstraction, to convey what’s at stake in it (the idea of not knowing).” Amy Sillman
