I thought about when I should conduct this and made the decision to not do this during a class where I need to participate in discussion or a time where I had to got to work. I just started training for a new job and needed to be able to communicate with my boss and co-workers about anything I need help with. I still did have to speak and answer questions and collaborate with peers, however. To do this, I had to write a lot or gesture a lot. I had to face an additional challenge in not only developing an understanding of the content but also having to think of how I might present what I have to say in a way that people will understand, I felt like no matter the method I used, people would still misunderstand or simply not know what I was trying to say at all. They feel discouraged from participating and frustrated when they try to do so. I can see how one would have breakdowns from the stress of this alone. I found myself thinking about students who need a communication board and only have a small selection of words to choose from.
