         <description><![CDATA[<div>Not about conditions of life in the "home country" <br><br>Debate is about legitimacy of the claims (i.e. "how do we know that these people are really refuges) <br><br>Focused on people smugglers, the one's that provide boats/avenues for passage to Australia. <br><br>Debate about what do we do with refugees...the idea of refugees settled in Australia is foreclosed. <br><br>The focus is on refugee choices (e.g. you could have sought asylum in indonesia/malysia instead of engaging people smugglers) <br><br><strong>Where else could we place our focus? <br><br>"</strong>There shouldn't be refugees in the first place"...what does this entail? <br><br>Addressing economic, political, ethnic etc. instability and conflict...<br><br>Address the inability of the UNHCR(?) to enforce the refugee convention <br><br>Focusing on the needs of refugees (i.e. safety and security of people seeking asylum, rather than adherence to a vague notion of "national security") <br><br>Focus on effective policies for settlement and "integration" of people seeking asylum (options for housing, employment, education etc.) <br><br><br></div>]]></description>
