 or others that you can find – link one onto your Padlet column and write a few (3 or more) sentences about what you think of it. Try to say something about the look (style) of the animation and also the feel (mood or emotion).

 

2)     Research Haiku poetry – try to find out about it and answer these questions on your Padlet column:

 

a.     When and where did the Haiku first come from?

 

b.     What was the art and design of the time like? Try to find some examples – link or post to your Padlet page, and comment on what you have found – again talk about the look and feel.

 

c.      Optional bonus task: try to write a Haiku of your own – the pattern is 5 syllables in the 1^st line, 7 in the second and 5 in the 3^rd. Many Haikus have a melancholy or contemplative feel to them – there is no reason you need to follow this path though. I wonder what a Scottish or Glaswegian Haiku would be like?

I like the way how the animation is presented, using the lyrics from the song “Doom and Gloom” by the Rolling Stones, using the text and audio to play throughout the whole animation. The visual style that they used in the video, adding a moving dirt texture in the background, and using paintbrush stylised text with paint splatters around some areas of the texts and scenes, giving it a rough & ready feel to it.

Another thing I like is how the scenes are portrayed, they are in a constant transition from start to finish, some move down, some move right, and there's only two directions going along with the song lyrics. 

Japanese writers began to adapt foreign literary techniques in poetry as Japan was opened up to the West. Journalist, writer, and poet, Masaoka Shiki, took full advantage when he officially made hokku an independent poem in the 1890s called haiku (singular and plural spelling) and brought haiku into the 20th century.

The Edo period ushered Japan into an era of wealth and relative peace, during which the arts flourished. Artists found a new audience in prosperous city-dwellers who had an appetite for images of daily life—both quiet domestic scenes and lively depictions of festivals and pilgrimages. Urban audiences also were drawn to images of scenic spots and travel pictures, a nod to the rise of tourism in a country once plagued by frequent warfare. Consumers of Edo art ranged from rich merchants who could afford sumptuous multi-panel screens to working-class citizens who fueled the market for inexpensive woodblock prints. As the screens, paintings, and prints on display demonstrate, a common challenge for Edo period artists was the creation of images that required keen observation of the world around them.
