So it was an international crisis in the middle east that precipitated on July 26, 1956, when the Egyptian president, Gamal Abdel Nasser, nationalized the Suez Canal.

Brief Description:
The Soviets blocked all western communication and transport, Berlin blockade, this lead to Western Germany to send planes over soviet space to deliver food and supplies to the western side of Berlin, eventually the blockade was removed.
A better life in the western part of Berlin lured many Soviets, in response to this, Eastern Germany encapsulated West Berlin with a large and heavily secured wall. Eventually when all of Germany was reunified, the wall was torn down.
