The combination of water and soil nutrients gives the soil some conductive properties. The more water there is, mixed with the nutrients, the weaker the resistance of the soil and the stronger the electric current transmitted. Conversely, the less moisture, the weaker the current. If the current we monitor is too low, then the soil is dehydrated and needs to be watered promptly.

Area of Interest: Object Animation

Design intent: My design intent is because many people get bored when they are alone at home, and many people have pets to have a sense of companionship, so this volcano is also designed with this inspiration.

Design Concept and Intended User Experience: The work simulates the moment of a volcanic eruption, the sensor senses an object approaching and activates the servo to push the "magma up", and then resets the process when the object is far away, which is suitable for placing in a corner of the house to enjoy. It's perfect for a corner of your home to enjoy, adding more interactive opportunities to your daily life.

All the wires, Micro:Bit and sensors are fixed on top of the base. Once secured, I made the outer keel out of an ice-cream stick and reinforced it, then made the outer walls of the volcano out of cardboard, finally coloured it and finished it off with a mounting cap.

I was inspired by a trip, to Kilauea Volcano in Hawaii in 2016, the volcano was dormant at the time, so circling the crater and walking in the middle was the closest I got to the volcano, unbeknownst to me, the volcano erupted two weeks later. So I wanted to make this work to commemorate my unforgettable trip.
