It can be built up with JavaScript, HTML, or CSS. While being incredibly difficult, programmed animations have benefits. You can control the quality of each frame and what fps (frames per second) it plays at. The approach before coding was brought into the animated world was drawing. However, this took a lot of time and patience. With programming, it does not take as much time to create the animations in a few chunks at a time. This can kill time much better than video games can up until the end of an anime series. Anime helps with entertainment up until this point because if there are no episodes left to watch, you might have to turn to hobbies or anything else that can slaughter time.
