For me, thus it's very important, because we aren't we aren't aware where we live, we're privileged! But there are a lot of people that don't have the same luck, like: Taliban's women, refugees, some black people, some cultures families... I think that this beautiful and colourful song is a representation of self-confidence. When I was reading the lyrics I thought that she was singing about her hair since a lot of afro women are asked if people could touch their hair, but when I read one of her friends explanation I understood it better.
As her friend said: “Don’t Touch My Hair” is the preservation of you. Praising your style, your look, for you. It’s cool to be you. Solange’s whole movement promotes that. That’s just who she is, and she doesn’t let anyone change her. You miss out on so much by trying to imitate someone else’s style.'
From my perspective, a lot of young adults and teens like me need this advice because when you reach the age of 12 you start to loose confidence and self-esteem. We start loosing ourselves and listen less to our parents. That's why some of us try to copy one another, or follow the steps of a celebrity because they make us feel like they understand us but in reality it's not and this is why it's important to maintain your personality and try to not change for the sake of others.
