However, by the end of the book he realizes all of the things that made up his logical reality were in fact suspect, and the childhood innocence that kept him comfortable was ripped from his eyes. When Chris reads his mother's letters that his father had hid from him he learns that his father had lied to him and his reality begins to crumble as the base it was built on disappears. When his father admits to the murder of Wellington, Chris is met with what he believes to be the ultimate betrayal that is nearly unforgivable.
