         <title>Placement and How it Works</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Placement of a BiVAD is a surgical procedure.<br>~ An incision is made in the front of the chest, down through the chest wall until the heart is reached.<br>~ The tubes are inserted into the heart so the machine can keep blood moving while the the procedure is being done.<br>~ Then, a tube will be placed into the right atrium or ventricle and attached to a pump. Another outflow tube from the pump is attached to the pulmonary artery. Now this pump will circulate blood from the right side of the heart, through the pump, and out the pulmonary artery to the lungs to gather oxygen.<br>~ On the left side of the heart the surgeon will place a tube in the left ventricle and attach it to a second pump. Then they will connect another outflow tube to the pump and connect it to the aorta. Now this pump will circulate blood from the left side of the heart, through the pump and out the aorta to the rest of the body.<br>~ Now that the inflow and outflow pumps are attached to each side of your heart to their own pump your surgeon can implant the two pumps inside the upper belly or on the outside of the skin. <br>~ A cable comes out through the skin and connects the pumps to a power source and system controller that is worn on the outside of the body. <br>~ When all the attachments are completed, the pumps are turned on to restore blood flow through the heart, lungs, and aorta.<br>~ After the procedure is completed the blood circulating through the bypass machine is allowed to reenter the heart and the bypass machine is removed. The incisions are then closed with sutures or surgical staples.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>~Yes, It does affect the device because the device its self is pumping blood through your body. So device is technically your HR and can be adjusted to your own specifications.</div>]]></description>

         <title>How Does Hypertension/ Hypotension Affect the Device and its Performance?</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>~ Hypertension affects the device due to the pressure it can put on it. It would help to have medication for hypertension when on the BiVAD to prevent any complications.<br>~ Hypotension does not affect the device as hypertension would but should also be addressed with medication or medical attention.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>~ My device is not appropriate for this patient in his current condition. I believe that another device should be used before resulting to the BiVAD. The BiVAD is a last resort device when the heart is or has completely failed. This is more of a conduction issue and I believe that a Pacemaker should be tried. The pacemaker would be more useful in his condition because a pacemaker is a device to help control abnormal heart rhythms. Also, his medication should be taken into consideration as well.</div>]]></description>
