This website offers a multitude of great resources. The resources include videos of Shel Silverstein reading aloud his poems with animation. This would be a great support for emergent bilinguals. Also, there are CCSS aligned lesson plans that include engaging ideas for writing, art, and reading. I would use this site to supplement my poetry unit.

In the past integrating technology into my teaching has been a struggle for me. I have definitely been stuck at the substitution level on the SAMR Model. While I know that simply having students type their essay rather than write it with a pencil isn't true technology integration, I haven't known exactly how to remedy the problem. I have also struggled with keeping students on task while on technology. Too often students were not completing an assignment, but rather searching images on Google.

As I have learned about integrating technology throughout this ESOL program, my thinking has begun to shift. The SAMR Model has been helpful as I think about what exactly the purpose of using technology is. The use of technology should allow students to make connections that they would otherwise not be able to, share their projects and writing with a larger audience than just the teacher, and have the ability to collaborate with others. This is especially important for emergent bilinguals as technology can provide many opportunities for vocabulary building, visuals, and access to language supports. We know that today's students are incredibly savvy and progressive with technology and often deeply engaged while using technology. As teachers, I believe that we must be very purposeful in how we use technology with all of our students. We should choose sites that enhance learning, language, and content. Projects should be designed to increase learning and allow for creative presentations, perhaps in the form of digital storytelling. Not only are we responsible for teaching the standards to our students, but also for preparing them for the future in which technology will play a huge role.
