This is an activity where students make a multicultural doll based on where they or their family is from. Students will create their doll with different materials provided and then present it to the class. It is a good opportunity for students to practice oral speaking and listening skills

This a great book to read when covering a unit on diversity. It will teach students about the Mexican culture and expose them to food from a different country. In addition, I would create a graphic organizer where students will be able to write the events that happened in the story.

This book allows students to see the many different colors of crayons and the purpose of each. It will help them understand that every student is a different color like the crayons but they each have a purpose. The activity will help them practice their writing skills and organize their thoughts.

This story was animated into a video, and it was in the form of a poem. It teaches students that everyone is unique and one should not dislike another person because of what they look like but instead appreciate their talents. I would have students write what they learned after watching the video.

Diversity and Play Dough

This activity involves making play dough with different colors with the whole class to represent diversity around the world. I would create the play dough step by step on a big table and have the students stand or sit around the table to watch. I would explain how the play dough starts off white and as we add food dye, they turn into different colors, but I would reiterate that it is still play dough and it doesn't change. Every child has a different skin color but they are all still children.

This book is about a boy who lives in America and a boy who lives in India and although they live far away from each other, they communicate with letters and pictures and realize that although they are from different countries, they are still the same in many ways. I would use this book to teach students that people in other countries are no different than us. Then I would have them do a response to reading to check for understanding.
