POLITICAL SITUATION

Egypt is a democratic republic, although some critics claim that it is not truly democratic. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi is the current President of Egypt. Basic education is free and compulsory for children between the ages of 6 and 12. The legal system is based on Islamic and civil law (particularly Napoleonic codes); and judicial review by a Supreme Court, which accepts compulsory International Court of Justice jurisdiction only with reservations. The official language is Arab. In ancient Egypt, the most powerful political figure was the pharaoh. When they died, they were mummified and buried in sarcophagi.

They were the formal writing system used in Ancient Egypt. If someone tries to read them now, it will be quite difficult to understand. It combined logographic, syllabic and alphabetic elements, with a total of some 1,000 distinct characters. Visually, hieroglyphs are all more or less figurative: they represent real or illusional elements, sometimes stylized and simplified, but all generally perfectly recognizable in form.
