In the beginning of the story, we are introduced to the main character Chrysanthemum, who grew up loving her name because her parents told her that they chose it because they thought it embodied everything she is, perfect.  However, once Chrysanthemum enters a new classroom environment, she gets made fun of for her name. This ultimately rips apart Chrysanthemum’s self-confidence apart piece by piece, like petals on a flower. This is until, one day the new music teacher Mrs. Twinkle teaches Chrysanthemum and her whole class that long, unique names are beautiful and should be embraced. This results in the whole class reversing their previous misconceptions of unique names like Chrysanthemum’s.
