In Lesson 6 I was struggling to comprehend how the cleanroom floors during my practical were so smooth and was not dirty. This video helped me understand how the cleanroom floors are thoroughly clean after each practical we have in school. This video demonstrated the very specific and orderly method cleanroom cleaners have to perform when ensuring the sterility of the cleanroom so that the contamination from microbes for example have an extremely low chance of occurring.

In lesson 5, i had a hard time understanding the strict attire needed in the clean room. This article helps me understand that we humans have a lot of contaminant. Contaminants like sweat, hair and fabric from the inner clothing can affect the cleanliness of the cleanroom. Wearing gloves, clean gowns , hair nets and shoe covers, This allow us to minimize the amount of contaminants in the clean room.

I admit the technique shown in this video seemed pretty strange to me at first. 'Why so troublesome?' - the thought i had when i watched it initially.

Oh, we all definitely did clean a table or a surface with a clothe before right? And of course, we wiped the cloth against the surface in random up down left right motions and if the surface becomes clear, we instinctively think that the table is clean - its a habit! which was the main challenge i faced in lesson 6.

In this video, the personnel showed an example of proper sanitization of workplace counter tops, etc. - in which we were tasked to perform in lesson 6's protocol.

As mentioned above, the biggest challenge i encountered was to constantly remind myself that the cleaning of surfaces in a cleanroom involves tedious and meticulous efforts to;

Constantly flip the wipes to its clean side after cleaning a surface.

Overlapping of the second wipe with the first stroke upon second surface cleaning and each subsequent cleaning of surface. 25-50%!

Wipe in a slow steady and downwards/upwards throughout the surface wiping process.

Thankfully though. This video, together with what Dr. Joel explained in class allowed me to reinforce my understanding and to know precisely why is this cleaning technique yet so important. Without knowledge of this cleaning technique, I'd have wiped the BSC in the practical like i always do without sparing a thought about its effectiveness.

Cleaning with this technique CLEANS our surface rather than SPREAD the dirt all over like conventional techniques.

Summary of the video

- Use water for injection quality or freshly filtered demineralized water for the cleaning process

- Add precise amount of water and cleaning substance to the container

- Flush filling lines with the proper cleaning solution

- Gather broken products or dirt without releasing into the air

- Monitor wear and tear on equipment

- Use a one- or two-bucket system depending on the SOP

- Periodically fog the cleanroom and thoroughly clean out any leftover fogging solution

- Record all cleaning tasks in the cleaning log for supervisor approval

In lesson 5, we talked about the practices and the arrangements of certain clean rooms. I was a little confused about how to disinfect the room so that it is free of or minimised from contamination. As we walk in and out, we will bring in certain germs or bacteria from our clothes or on ourselves, and as we touch those materials or equipment, we are spreading bacteria even though we use sanitiser and ethanol to disinfect the places, there will still be places where the bacteria are still found, and it might accumulate the number of bacteria contaminating the room.

This video helped me to have a better understanding of the procedures we have to do to minimise the contamination in the clean room and what we can do to prevent exposing the bacteria and contaminants to the rest of the room after our practical. They showed a step-by-step procedure which is easier to follow as it moves in a direction.

It also talks about being aware of the equipment and its conditions and having to report and record for further actions.

They show a part where they talked about sweeping the products off the floor, especially those toxic products before they are released into the air. I find that is quite an important part especially when handling substances that are more dangerous, as while handling bottles or any agar plates we might have some mishandling e.g dropping or breaking, and this is a great example of why we need to clean it up quickly.
