The declaration proposed the creation of a European Coal and Steel Community whose members would pool the production of these products.

The CECA was formed by six countries, France, West Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, and was one of the first of a series of supranational institutions that would become what is today the European Union.

Its purpose is the creation of a nuclear industry in the territory of the member states, and to establish the necessary measures for the existence of a common market in nuclear matters.

Its functions are: to develop research,

establish standards regarding radiological protection,

establish common companies between its member states and

guarantee the peaceful use of nuclear materials and the supply of nuclear fuels.

International organization created by one of the two Treaties of Rome of 1957 (in force since 1958), with the purpose of creating a common European market, among its members by removing trade barriers and establishing a common foreign trade policy, it also established a common agricultural policy, which was established in 1962.

There are now twenty-seven Member States.

The common agricultural policy is a partnership between Europe and its farmers, its objectives are:

* Support farmers and improve agricultural productivity.

* Fight against climate change and the sustainable management of natural resources.

* Conserve landscapes and rural areas across the EU

It was not until 1975, with the arrival of democracy, that the procedures to become part of the EU began. Negotiations began in 1979, but it was not until 1986 that the process to become a member of the EU began, with which everyone agreed that they would achieve a greater democratization of the country.

Later, the Amsterdam Treaty in 1997 made the EU stronger. It gave more power to the Parliament and allowed some countries to work together more closely. It was all about making the EU better and fairer for everyone.

The Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, signed in 2000, outlines basic rights for EU citizens. It will become legally binding when another treaty, the Treaty of Lisbon, takes effect.

During this time, EU laws still applied in the UK, even though the UK wasn't part of EU institutions anymore. From January 1, 2021, a new agreement called the "Trade and Cooperation Agreement" started. This deal covers different things like trade, cooperation on social and environmental issues, and working together on security matters like fighting crime and terrorism.

The Trade and Cooperation Agreement is overseen by a special council made up of people from both the EU and the UK. They check that everything in the agreement is working well. Overall, Brexit is a big change in how the UK and the EU work together, and the Trade and Cooperation Agreement sets the rules for their new relationship.
