The classroom environment and culture are all teacher-driven! Collaborative learning is included in the first three quadrants. Having a solid structure is foundational to all the other work we are doing in the classroom. The lesson closure in the first quadrant is student-driven.

First takeaway is that all the quadrants are interconnected. The lesson structure lends to the “what” we are teaching and the instructional engagement and classroom environment is the “how”. Second takeaway is that instructional engagement and classrooms environment quadrants need to be strong for the lesson structure elements to be effective.

It is important to encourage new teachers to lay the foundation of the classroom environment and culture and not feel like they need to rush through the process of establishing those classroom routines.
