Written by Mario Puzo, The Godfather is much more than a crime novel. It is a powerful story about family, loyalty, ambition, revenge, and the hidden systems of power in society. Even though the book focuses on the mafia world, its emotional core is really about relationships, trust, and the sacrifices people make for their families.

One of the greatest strengths of the novel is its characters. Don Vito Corleone is portrayed as intelligent, calm, and deeply respected. Unlike a typical violent gangster, he often appears thoughtful and strategic, which makes him both frightening and admirable at the same time. However, the most interesting character is Michael Corleone. At the beginning of the story, Michael wants nothing to do with his family’s criminal empire. He seems quiet, educated, and separate from that dangerous world. As the novel progresses, readers slowly watch him transform into someone colder, more calculating, and more powerful than anyone expected. His transformation is one of the most famous character arcs in modern literature.

Overall, The Godfather is considered a classic because it combines crime, family drama, psychological conflict, and social commentary into one unforgettable novel. It remains influential decades after publication because its themes about power and human nature still feel relevant today.

Ngoc
