I am glad to take you to watch my leadership storyboard journal. As a student in hospitality management program, I define the leadership as the abilities to guide followers to engage with better performance and achieve successes in business goals. The success of business is one of the best way to identify a person’s leadership. A good leadership is reflected by successfully managing a team with diverse employees and caring for employees’ benefits.

 

 

There are three strategies to achieve my goal of developing the skills to work with diverse workforce. First of all, I need to have a positive attitude to getting involved with a diverse workplace. Before I start leading my followers in diverse culture, I should be mindful with the fact. If I can well understand different culture backgrounds, it is also an opportunity to explore myself. In addition, a team with diverse cultural backgrounds could be more creative, because members have different perspectives in dealing with issues. Secondly, when I am trying to have a certain understanding of my followers, I should identify both their strengths and weaknesses. For example, some employees can speak a second language in addition to English, such as Chinese. This is their strengths and they have the advantage of expanding Chinese market. For employees poor in English, I would try to help them improve English. Last but not least, it is significant to avoid conflicts. As a leader, I should keep in mind to think from my followers’ perspectives. It is necessary to think about the possible conflicts that could happen in workplace, and increasing the verbal and non-verbal communications, or brainstorm is useful to avoid or solve the potential issues.
