The red card sat on the counter, stained but spent.</p><p>Sarah stood in the doorway, arms crossed. “You didn’t have to do it.”</p><p>Linda didn’t look up. “Yes, I did.”</p><p>Outside, a siren wailed, then faded into the distance. Life moved on. Justice had been done or so they said.</p><p>She picked up the empty red card envelope and tucked it back into the drawer.</p><p>Sarah’s voice was quiet now. “What if someone uses theirs on you?”</p><p>Linda closed the drawer.</p><p>“Then I guess I’ll deserve it.”</p>]]></description>
