A hopeful time leads up to dreams turned to dust because,In a hopeful time everything is going great, farms are flourishing, plates are filled with food but, happy homes everywhere. But then it all goes downhill and the Great Depression comes everybody is running out of money then some people start to quit and leave. Then things get even worse a drought happens and they skies stay blue and no rain so farms start growing many people leave but the people who stayed behind sat there and hopped for the best

For a hopeful time section, everything was going out great, rain was plentiful and famiies were happy. Catherine was born at that time, crops grew quickly and food was in stock. Towns, stores, and churches sprouted.

But in the next section "Dreams turned to dust", the Great Depression striked America, people lost their jobs and salaries are spiking down. The drought occured withering the crops, that means the farmers can't get food. Later the soil dried up and caused many dust storms that could kill a family in a matter of seconds.

In "Dreams turned to dust" they realized it was a bad idea to rip up the prairie grass and it caused them to have mini dust storms and since they pulled up the prairie grass their crops withered away and and left extra soil on the ground. In "A hopeful time" they thought that everything was going well and that their towns were growing an growing and they didn't realize later they would have to face bigger problems.
