Master level students are advancing their established knowledge with critical thinking to explore and advance ideas, which enables a deeper understanding of topics

Registered nurses are expected to use acquired knowledge such as critical thinking and reflection however at masters level there would be the motivation to focus on deeper analysis of the facts presented to them in order to enhance their clinical decision making.

In turn they would have developed a higher skill set of what is required to improve that patients health ie working towards a role as 'clinical expert' in their field.

The behaviours of such a nurse would demonstrate an enhanced ability to communicate, problem-solve and critically think together with a greater understanding of empathy and professional responsibility.

Skills: A Masters level practitioner will have developed greater skills in literature searching and appraisal. Moving on from Degree level which serves to demonstrate understanding and emerging critical writing skills, a Masters level practitioner will advance their skills in appraising the work of others and synthesising findings from a broad range of credible and valid sources to develop new ideas and recommendations.

Attitudes/behaviours: A Masters level practitioner will progress from seeking to increase and embed their own knowledge base, to developing new and innovative ideas and recommendations from their own learning and associated research. They will be motivated to learn from others as well as sharing their knowledge to support others and advance understanding and practice.

I would expect someone to be highly specialised in their chosen field of Nursing. With an enhanced ability to utilise both the theory and knowledge learned during their undergraduate studies along side their experiences as a professional to inform their practice. I would expect them to be able to take a more critical and informed approach to their Nursing practice. Considering ways in which they could use their deep level of understanding and experience within their speciality/field to develop new innovative approaches.

I would expect someone to be not only an inspiration to the future generation of students but to be able to model the skills and attributes above as a benchmark for future registrants.

I would expect someone to have the knowledge and understanding of their own strengths and limitations of their own professional practice. Recognising if/when they are feeling out of their depth and being able to confidently seek support from colleagues when necessary. Equally being able to support colleagues from all professions or grades with empathy, mutual respect with the appreciation that in Nursing practice knowledge can vary depending on previous professional roles/experiences.

Degree level/entry level Nursing

Could be viewed as the introduction in the field of practice. With the theory focusing on the fundamental aspects of Nursing practice. The skills focusing on the core skills required across the field. An introduction into the professional expectations of the NMC.

Masters level

At masters level, registrants would (I assume) have a breadth of experience in their chosen area. Have been able to put into practice the theory and knowledge gained at entry level and have developed upon their own practice to a level where they are an all round confident and competent professional in their field. A masters level of study would equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills to enhance their professional practice further.

Knowledge: I expect this person to have substantial knowledge and experience in bedside / clinical nursing and adequate training in technology and its management.

Skills: I expect this person to be able to demonstrate their skills in solving frequently asked questions of the department.

Behaviour : I expect this person to be ready to teach others knowing the implication of being the only person with knowledge. I wouldn’t expect this same level of professionalism from someone who just has a degree knowledge

As a registered nurse on degree level, it is expected to follow the procedures, to seek accurate handover, and work according to the knowledge from the university and the skills up taken daily during nursing care practice.

But on Masters degree professional, it is expected to be knowledgeable in depth on a subject, having the audience listening with attention on the meetings/gatherings/training.

Skills are shown to be practical, on the theme, able to demonstrate and explain the process, able to answer most or all questions.

An individual with Masters degree has empathy, is open minded, has taken into account the social and economic aspect and of course, the ritual aspect of other individuals.

They would have extreme understanding on very complex ideas on existing research.

They may have incredible level problem-solving, critical thinking and demonstrate practical use of their abilities.

They may have commitment towards constant learning and professional develop professionally.
