I had to put my dog down about a week ago. She was my heart and soul. The amount of support and love I have received has been amazing. It has definitely helped my heart heal to feel how much she was loved by others as well.

I heard about a woman who painted 100 pictures to represent important people in her life. I can't paint so I tried to figure out how I could adapt this idea. I am now in the process of writing 100 thank you notes to people who have had an impact on my life - all the way back to college, my first jobs, and up until the present. It has been so fulfilling. Although I'm not doing it to hear back from people, I've gotten some touching responses.

I spent a full day running errands with my 86 year old mom at HER pace -- which is a very slow, methodical one. I had to remind myself not to help too much, and to simply be in the moment and be patient. It took a couple of self-reminders, but I found her rhythm and joined her in that space. It was sweet being with her in that space. I know she did that for me for many years as I was growing up.

I was feeling pretty down and blue today, so I journaled. I asked my brain, "What is going on, friend?" I wrote all answers without filtering them. I just listened to myself. I observed my thoughts. I didn't try to solve anything or ask why. I just listened. I felt a lot better after that and was able to reenergize and focus.

My mom recently found out some sad news about someone in our family. I gave her a call with the intention of being fully present and it was such an open-hearted conversation.

A Hard Left Turn

When I drive home from from work, I have to turn left across a busy highway. When I stay late, this turn becomes very difficult against rush hour. Yesterday, a woman in oncoming traffic recognized she wouldn’t lose ground if she let a few cars by. It didn’t really matter, but it was very appreciated.

I met my oldest son for dinner to celebrate National Margarita Day. He is going through a really tough time so it was good to catch up and check in with him in a fun way. After dinner, my youngest son offered to drive us home since I had a margarita. :) He is only 16 so could not join in with a margarita but could contribute to the evening in his own way and felt so proud. Loved seeing both my boys smiling and happy!

I adore the wonderful human beings with whom I work. I wasn't feeling very well yesterday, and their kindness and care toward me was so appreciated. When I arrived at work today, I was asked immediately how I was feeling today (MUCH better, by the way!). I love these people!

I noticed several students holding doors and helping students when they got hurt on the playground. It's nice to see kindness trickling down to the younger students!
