Briefly reflect on your current writing instructional practices regarding how your students approach writing their conclusion paragraph to support their topic. You can mention how this might be challenging for your students or describe a successful strategy you have used with them when they are attempting to bring their essay to a close.

My students have a hard time with the conclusion. So many want to write "The End." and call it good.

I have them tell me their story and really think about how it ended. The ending should have some details in there. This seems to help them understand how to wrap it up.

I tell my students to summarize their writing. (Beginning, Middle, End) and tell why they picked this topic.
They can summarize or paraphrase, but it may be no longer than three complete sentences.
And, please do not put "The End" or "I hope you like my story" at the end.

My students were not ending their essays. I admit, I give my students a formula for expository essays.
I told them to restate their prompt, give the most important detail from their topics, and close with their last thoughts.

I will admit too that I use somewhat of a formulaic approach when trying to teach endings. Simply because I haven't found much else that has worked. I would love better ways to teach students how to write a conclusion.

Again, I usually give my students a choice of "formulas" from Bernabei or The TX Teaching Fanatic. Their favorite way to conclude their writing is with a Hope/Wish conclusion. I do find that many kids just want to end abruptly. They are tired and ready to be finished!!!

I teach my students to use F.L.A.R.E.S. in their conclusion as well as a brief summary of their topic. It stands for Future, Lesson learned, Action, Reaction/reflection, Emotion, and Satisfying ending. Most of my kids choose to use Future, Lesson learned, Reaction/reflection, and Emotion and I find those are the easiest for them.
