The 5J approach resonated with me because it seems like a really effective framework for running a technology PD. PGCPS isn't using the 5J approach because we don't have technology-centric PD's. In preparing a technology PD for my colleagues, the 5J's will guide me through the process.

In order to apply each principle into my professional development plan, I will begin by opening the floor for discussion and suggestions. We'll discuss problems that teachers are seeing in their classrooms, and possible technological solutions. We'll also activate prior knowledge and capitalize on the experiences of veteran teachers by sharing stories about technology integration.

In order to motivate my colleagues, I will include them in all decisions and allow them to be a part of the process every step of the way. As they are "self-directed" individuals, autonomy goes a long way in terms of motivation.
Mastery, or the "desire to improve," is a motivating factor, as adult learners have an intrinsic motivation to learn. One of the 5J's is "job-related," and adults are motivated when they can find purpose in their work. As a technology leader, I have to demonstrate how technology integration will make teachers' lives easier by fully engaging their students

This free unconference takes place in Southeast D.C, which is only 30 minutes from me, so I could potentially attend.

Over the course of my three-year teaching career, the professional developments that I’ve attended thus far have been mandatory. Due to a lack of relative advantage and lack of applicable information, I rarely take away much from professional development. However, I’ve yet to attend a professional development that was educational-technology-centric, so perhaps that could help motivate me. I don’t believe that the current technology leaders of PGCPS are doing a great job of motivating teachers to learn and use technology. There is a need for professional development on educational technology, as well as added awareness regarding current available technologies.
