Ava discovered a magical pencil. She tells her best friend Sophie about it and Sophie says they should ask it all kinds of questions. They discover that the pencil cant answer questions free will. Ava found out her mum has cancer and she was upset. she eventually managed to face her fears by doing something fun and crazy. She finally realizes that the person speaking is her grandmother's soul, and she asks her grandfather who is dying about the pencil an after he grandfathers death she finally manages to let go of the pencil.

Ava learns that the pencil only causes her pain and worry so she throws it away. The lesson she learned is seeking answers isn't always helpful it could lead to pain or worrying and most of the answers you need science will have provided already or doctors will have provided. She also learns to appreciate her loved ones instead of worrying about when they'll be gone.

I connect this book to the world because a lot of people are like Ava and they always worry. They also find it hard to stick to one answer and worry about problems that they don't have. They are always seeking answers but eventually the answers they find out can lead to worrying or pain like Ava they might hide their worries and shove them aside and keep searching for answers but in the end they see that the answers they seek only make them worry more and only cause them pain.

Sophie's and Ava's friendship is important in the story because their friendship helps Ava grow as a person and a human being. their friendship grows everyday and Sophie pushes Ava to be her best self. Ava used to reject a lot of things but with Sophie by her side Ava did a lot more things and had so much fun!

The internal conflict is that Ava is struggling with her worries and she is having a hard time letting go of the pencil even though it causes her to worry. And she struggles with accepting the fact that the pencil only causes her worries to get worse.

Ava's Grandfather used the pencil to gamble and he ended up gambling all of Ava's college fund making her mother very upset. The Grandfather got addicted and kept going this shows that gambling is terrible but it plays a key part of this story because Ava found out about it and asked her mother to forgive her Grandfather which her mother did. Which was lucky because when Ava found out about the gambling her grandfather was currently sick and going to die so she begged her mother to forgive him knowing if her mother didn't it would be too late. It symbolizes that everything must be forgiven before its too late.

The external conflict is between Ava's mother and her body because Ava's mother has cancer and is terribly sick. Ava wants her mum to be healthy but the cancer blood cells are not cooperating with Ava's wishes or her mum's body. Therefore they are in conflict.
