- Using a fake commission is fine, just find a client to help direct the advert

- Models and Blender work are difficult to assess, so try and use premade models and assets, as the assessment is more on the craft edits, story, post side of it etc.

- Create a storyboard for a 1 to 1, to describe the shots and script, (Can use the shoot & edit skills to assess the camera work and positioning)

The picture above is a model that I have been working on from before, so I will use this instead of starting from scratch. This model is an existing model of Nissan Juke Type-R that I found on a 3D model website. I wanted the original Juke, so I edited this model to match it (Changing the hood, badge colors, headlight glass, rear spoilers and more in the interior). This project is the majority of my Blender learning.

This will be an offline Picture-lock cut. This will likely reserve a project on its own due to its unique skillset provided. This will also be prioritised last, as the other projects require more time and is also added relatively late.

- Applied for Holiday from work for the last 10 days of Ramadan (which is also last 10 days of submission deadline) as these days are extra special in terms of worship

My association with InUse ReUse begins near the origin of this project in 2021, where I was present throughout the process, and commissioned to manage the social media, create graphics & posters and to shoot a documentary-esque video on the whole project. The purpose of this is to send as a report to Lambeth Council (exclusively) and showcase what InUse ReUse did with their commission, and present why they should be considered for future projects. Their target was to highlight the community engagement involved with the making of the furniture, through the showcasing events, workshops, testimonials and production stages. As a report to the council, infographics on stats & figures were required to be included.

After speaking with Dennis (the Client in question), he supported the creation of an audience-friendly video of this process, for the public.   • Added Music and extended the music from within the original clips
  • Placing the monologue as a backing Voice Over track underneath the Visuals, which does cut down a significant amount of time. However, this clips do not match the audio.
  • Combining multiple images into one frame, cutting down more time
  • Extended the background duration of the images behind the infographics to make it less harsh and easier to read
  • Cut down durations of the testimonials
  • Added SFX such as Camera Clicks

This is to make a short Advertisement-esque cut, which does not go into specific detail regarding the Your Streets Your Way competition/project. But rather a promotional video of InUse ReUse as a company.

This comes after some concerns that an unaware audience will not understand the extended video, as the target audience is primarily the council, and with visuals and VO not necessarily directly matching. The visuals in the extended cut goes through a community engagement process, whereas the VO explains the project in general. Thus, a separate Advert discussing InUse ReUse alone and matching shots to the VO, would be better at grabbing and retaining the audience's attention without the confusion of catering to the council.

From the existing [now referred to as the Extended Your Streets Your Way Cut], I selected shots and VO. Added music and edited them together to create a seemless and clear to understand Ad. This did not take much time away from the other things I was doing.   • No Music/Acapella BG music only - due to the religious nature and beliefs of the channel
  • A common use of vector graphics and icon-like logos of the minimalistic kind. Also, these usually have an equally simplistic drop shadow
  • Motion graphics include heavy use of SFX, lots of Pops, ticks and occasionally a comedic, out-of-place sound effect
  • Camera work and zooms must be smooth and not abrupt/rigid. Easy ease and the graph editor will be my biggest friend
  • Background to the motion graphics are rarely ever plain. Add noise/film grain to soften the sollid colour
  • Holy or Prophetic Names and connotations have a wide, visible outer glow, symbolic of a heavenly nature
  • Quotes rarely appear disrupted. Show the full quote all at once, and highlight/change the colour to show whats being read
  • Prevalent lens flares (as transitions aswell) and particle overlays

My current Nissan Model requires some extra work plus rigging. It may be best for the short time left, to select a completely finished model and begin working with this.

This is a project I'd like to complete in my own time, as 3D animation, modelling and rendering is a growing interest of mine. My association with Brixton MINT begins with a contact (Gordon) who originally introduced me to the InUse ReUse YSYW Project back in 2021. As the collaborative partnership in that project, Gordon helped me find the role and supported me and Dennis during that process. Gordon has since introduced me to numerous other projects, including Brixton MINT, and asked me to undertake a similar role for this organisation. (Its pretty clear, that Gordon has been monumental in helping me with Networking)

On Saturday 19th November 2022, Mint held an open-to-all event called Money, Community & Me. This was an opportunity for locals to seek support, share their stories surrounding money and planning to build economic resilience. I was employed for photography and videography work; to film the event, record people's feedback and create an advertisement, to showcase and spread awareness for future projects. After the workshop, the organisation went a little quiet, where a few internal names were going through personal issues and I had to focus on my dissertation. We have collectively decided to name the movie 'Decion,' which is a wordplay on the word Decimation, a prominent theme throughout the movie. Throughout this section, the titles Decion and Batman will be used interchangeably, with both referring to the same film.

Some changes to the plan and extra notes detailed here: 

  • The main talking point is that one of the participants could not make the day of shooting and there is not another day in the foreseeable future in which everyone is free to film (Due to other commitments and Education). We had prepared for this during our meeting, and concluded with: Filming all the scenes we could with the available crew members, and reduce the Feature film brief to a trailer/advertisement for the film (In which we would finish shooting in the distant future). This comes after the fact that the plot would not be logically consistent with the exclusion of particular scenes and characters. Also worth noting, this does remove the storytelling, narrative editing skill this project would've showcased (As it moves from a action drama to a short trailer).
  • One consequence of this is, this may be more difficult to judge, as those without the context of knowing the characters from my YouTube channel, will not particularly understand some references made in the Trailer. I will need to explain this even further and thoroughly in the script.
  • Filming of the scenes we could film went well. Plentiful takes of each scene and a variety of different storylines, should we decide to change later in post production.
  • Trailer does feel a little incomplete/bare, so will have to figure out a way to create more shots without the entire crew participants. 
  • All equipment remained safe and in perfect condition, rushes stored and backed up on different SSD's connected to different devices.

To begin physically Editing this project, I downloaded the graphics from the transcript notes, and spent time on Adobe Illustrator converting all the PNG and SVG files into Vector shapes and paths as AI files. Adjustment 1:

The opening shot does not have the full 2 seconds before an abrupt cut/"We say this" (to establish who is talking). However, the opening animation begins as close to this cut as seamlessly possible.

This change does have implications on the seamless loop factor of YouTube shorts, as the video begins and ends on the same frame. As a result, the ending is readjusted to make remove the inconsistency this may cause. Added an animated bell icon at the end.

Adjustment 3:

I have found 2 different videos to replace the snow footage. The one I have chosen feels the most appropriate and better quality.   • That he went away on a small break
  • he is back now
  • he will meet up with the team, sort out a brief and send over as soon as he can
  • however time is stretched for him, and may not be able to give enough ample time to reach my deadline (to create a finished piece of work)
  • I understood, but also remembered a note from a lecture explaining that the outcome does not have to be the fully finished piece, but just showing the 'offline cut' instead

As this is a real commission, and will be extended beyond this portfolio project, Brixton MINT will be an unfinished offline edit due to the lack of time remaining, and will begin as soon as I have received the brief.

Note (From the future): I receive the brief on the 26th, leaving me only a day to work on the project. I will be creating a first draft, and therefore this project will aim to showcase offline editing to a very tight deadline, dealing with hours of footage, for next day delivery.

Today, all the participants were available for a 2nd Day of shooting. We managed to film a couple more scenes of the movie, although to finish all the scenes of the entire movie would require many more filming days.  Respectively, we wanted to film the most action packed scenes which we could add to the trailer, so we went for some Skyline shots and the biker scenes. To critique, we did not use nor have access to the same filming equipment or camera used to shoot in Day 1. Lacking microphones etc. This may cause some differences in how the scenes look in the final result.

As mentioned before, The client and I sat down and reworked the script, as it was clogged, with no structure and almost illegible. I also had to explain some of the inside jokes/context to certain tropes and symbols present throughout the trailer. Thus, we have made a document, (Linked here and with the Video Submission) that explains the script, context and the plot, and we recommend reading this to fully understand the meaning and reasoning behind the trailer. This should answer every question you may have after watching, almost like a cheat manual guide.

Looks cool, but may be too much and too distracting for the scene

Also possibly could cause issues with the scroll, should I want to rotate it, or move it around obscurely

Render via Media Encoder and sent as a H264 Deliverable, awaiting feedback
