Great expectations is the story of Pip, an orphan boy adopted by the Blacksmith's family, who has good luck and great expectations. However, this rises and falls. Pip learns how to find hapiness and he finally becomes a better person. The story starts with the narrator Pip, who introduces himself and describes a much younger Pip staring at the gravestones of his parents. The boy is suddenly terrified by a man dressed in a prison uniform. The man tells Pip that if he wants to live, he must go down to his house and bring him back some food and a fipe for the shackle on his leg. Pip is brought to Miss Havisham's place and he meets a girl about at his age, pretty Estella. Pip is in love at first sight with her. He then meets Miss Havisham, an old woman dressed in an old wedding gown. Miss Havisham seems happy when Estella insults Pip's coarse hands. Pip is insulted but thinks there is something wrong with him. So, he turns into a gentleman. Eleven years later Pip goes to Satis House and he meets Estella there. She tells Pip that she has learned the feeling of heartbreak in a hard way and now she is looking for his forgiveness. Finally, they walk at the garden hand in hand and Pip "sees the shadow of no parting from her"!
